Memory's fuzzy...could've been an MTU or an Iron Fist reprint...but it could
just as easily have been...

JB's first Iron Fist story in Marvel Premiere.

Interestingly, the first George Perez story I saw was an early Sons Of The Tiger.

Interesting in that both those series were full of punching and hitting, but that both JB and Perez have great strengths in the area of facial expressions, body language, nuances of storytelling that don't focus on violence.

For me it was the Ghost Rider/Daredevil crossover back in 1976. At least, that's the first time I was impressed enough by the art to notice the artist's name.

I can't say for certain what my first exposure to JB's art was, but it was probably this.  I remember buying it off of the spinner rack at Eckerds Drug Store.

I had not heard of Captain Britain before this issue, I remember that.

I came to the John Byrne party late. ALPHA FLIGHT #25 was my first
look at JB's art. I thought it was pretty good until I got to the splash
page revealing Mac as part man and part machine. Then came the
reveal at the end of AF#26 when Guardian proved to be a robot
named Courtney, with some amazing art on both pages. From that
point on I was hooked.

Looking at that cover to SPACE1999, I can REALLY see the
Frank Bellamy influence. Nice work.

Probably an issue of the FF during the Sphinx saga.

For me it was Avengers 233, Fantastic Four 256 and FF Annual 17.

I was 12 years old...

But I did not become a Byrne victim until Alpha Flight 1 :-)

This one for me, which came from a three-issue shrink-wrapped US comics pack found in the tiny onsite newsagent on a rainy holiday park in Wales in 1980 (?) -- it also had the JLA issue below ; I spent several happy evenings that week with pencils trying to work out an Avengers / JLA battle on A4 sheets of cartridge paper, by copying out the work in both comics.

I can't recall though what the third issue in the pack was ...

A DC & Marvel mixed pack?  I don't remember ever seeing any of those.

Hi, Michael - yes, I know it sounds unusual, but I think they were 'bargain packs' of random unsold US issues already distributed to newsagents over here in the UK ; it was before the days of the direct market, and I suppose I just got lucky that these two were in my pack

We have had something similar until fairly recently in 'The Works' book chain, which has packaged some old Marvel, DC and Valiant Comics together ( so you can probably tell how old those titles were ... )
