Yep, I figured everyone would have assumed that this was Ryan's! But hey, I've said numerous times how the Alphans had an effect on me as well, so I figured it was time for me to represent!
And yes, it's not the cheeriest of scenes. I was 11 when AF#12 came out and it truly upset me for a while. Even more so since ever since then I was under the assumption that this was a remnant of Guardian's burning skull laying on the ground!

Wow! Powerful work. Knowing what's about to happen, this piece
kinda hits you in the gut. Nice job JB. I love the gray tones.
BTW, when is it "GREY" and when is it "GRAY"?Or are they
interchangeable?

That is Frelling Awesome!! I love it when JB does commission pieces in this style. The detail is just amazing, I am a huge AF fan and this was a very big moment in the series. I am also getting a OMAC vibe from this as far as the no color aspect. It makes me want to reread both series today.

That is truly the way to end the year.

I'm also getting an OMAC vibe from this piece - which to me is a great thing. I really miss the Duo-Shade work.

I love the way the pencils really complemented the piece…•• Technical note: the gray/grey tones here, as with the last several tonal pieces, are PITT pens, not pencil. I found the pencils grays too prone to smudge, and also found I could get the same kind of graduated tones by layering the PITT pens as I get with pencil, so. . . . And, now it can be told: this piece was actually further up the List than last place, but knowing the title I was going to give it, I just had to end the year with it!

Holy crap. A fantastic representation of a chilling moment that will forever be...(*ahem*)...burned into my brain. 
I'm slightly amazed that this saw print, back in the day. To have a main character literally blown-apart and incinerated on-panel is pretty extreme. Of course, by today's standards, it's very tame. But way more powerful.

I've been convinced for years that Andy Yanchus interpreted that middle panel in the bottom row as a figure, and not Mac's face as I intended.Looking at that page, as reference for this piece, I found myself getting annoyed all over again with the "His Old Stuff Was Better" crowd -- especially since ALPHA is counted among that "superior" old stuff. GAH!!!!!!

Not a problem! I was actually going to ask if you used a fixative since I was concerned about smudging, so there you go! I probably never would have guessed that the tones were PITT instead of pencil if you hadn't said so.
