Dan Slott is actually a member here. He doesn't post much, but maybe we can get some insights the next time he visits, since this thread title has his name in it.

I looked at the spoiler, and it seems easily reversible. Both Marvel and DC have overused the trope being explored here, so I don't understand what warrants a death threat------------------------------------------------------------------ And if it were not easily reversible or not an overused trope, the death threat would be warranted?

Yes, that was the point I was making exactly. (*eyeroll for the sarcasm-impaired*)

I am sad about the whole "amazing" ending, as well, but, know it's just marketing and that they'll go back to the original numbering. Business is business.

" There are currently 50 years of past Peter Parker stories for people to read to tide them over,"
=================================
The first time I heard this from fellow posters was when Jemas and Quesada began "fixing" Marvel. Hey it's different stuff, they said, but Marvel will get back to being Marvel sooner or later. A full decade later and this has not yet happened. No, Marvel will probably never get back to producing great comics. Marvel as a comic book company is permanently broken.

Worst ever? C'mon! Sins Past? One More Day? The Other? Civil War? And those are just during the JMS run. We go back any further we get the Clone Saga, and any number of crappy stories involving symbiotes, returning parents, Aunt May's death, the "miscarriage" and subsequent kidnapping of baby Parker by Norman Osborn.
Heck, Kevin Smith wrote "The Evil That Men Do" and Mark Millar did that Marvel Knights story where Electro talked about having gay sex in prison. Remember Todd McFarlane's run as writer? We got Torment which amounted to five issues of DOOM DOOM DOOM and the now classic face palming comment about Spider-Man's webbing being "advantageous." Then we had that Wendigo/Wolverine story about a child molesting cop.
Doctor Octopus taking over as Spider-Man doesn't even make the top ten.

I thought McFarlane's Torment was such an appropriate title for his Spider-Man series because it was exactly how I felt experiencing his writing.

I dunno, Freaky Friday meets Knighfall sounds kinda lame, but I admit I haven't read the story.

No one has really. Superior Spider-Man doesn't start until January and Amazing Spider-Man #700 doesn't come out until next week.

With such a long, blatant mishandling of the character, i'm surprised Spider-Man made it to #700... are sales really high enough still??? Lots of fans with no interest in good story lines i imagine.

Marvel will probably never get back to producing great comics. I respectfully disagree, Joe. I don't agree with some (alot?) of Marvel's practices but they do produce some comics that I enjoy. Is the Fantastic Four as good as it was when John Byrne was doing it IMO? No. Did older readers who read JB's run miss the good old days of Kirby and Lee? I'm sure some did. There are younger readers at my LCS who think that Grant Morrison's run is better than the Byrne/Claremont run that is my all time favorite. I think they don't know what they're talking about. My point is that "great comics" tend to be in the eye of the beholder. This storyline, to me, is no different than when Spider-Man got the symbiote after Secret Wars. Now whether it's a good storyline or not, I haven't read it but there some people who will enjoy it.
