"Is the NRA really so much more powerful? Can our 'representatives' in Washington really continue to ignore the death toll? They acted against tobacco. They acted against drugs (most of which are far less damaging to society as a whole that tobacco). Once upon a time, they even considered acting against comic books!

How big are the NRA's pockets, and how many Senators and Congressmen really fit into them?"

The understandable dilemma is that any unhinged tobacco nuts could, at worst, fling a lit cigarette at you.  Unhinged gun nuts can shoot you!

Some gun-advocates want Piers Morgan deported for expressing a pro-gun control view: LINK.

And more gun nastiness with two firefighters being killed while tackling a blaze. LINK

It's a good thing no American has ever expressed an opinion on what happens in another country.

My favorite part of the Piers Morgan petition is that his opinion about gun owners and advocates that is being twisted into an "attack on the constitution's second amendment" is protected by the constitution's first amendment freedom of speech rights.

You know. . .

The Federal Government has used the IRS for social engineering in the past. Unconstitutionally, in many instances, as with jacking up taxes on cigarettes, to discourage people from smoking.

Maybe that's a way around the Second Amendment. Jack up the taxes on gun purchases, and slap huge property taxes on gun ownership. Make it impossibly expensive to own guns.

That's clever!

There's no way they'll ever use that idea though, because it's too easy to implement. Not enough bureaucracy involved.

The US tax system is arcane, but that's one of the things that make my idea possible. Hide the new taxes under "generation of new revenue" until they're safely in place.

And, too, if people can launch lawsuits against tobacco companies, when it was they themselves who smoked and thus inflicted the damage, survivors of these shootings should be able to bury the gun manufacturers under mountains of expensive litigation. Make it financially impractical to make the things!
