Reading some of the quotes from NRA Chief Wayne LaPierre - in particular, "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun"...

***

I guess LaPierre cannot recall that Ronald Regan, James Brady and a police officer were all shot by John Hinckley while in the presence of some of the best trained armed guards in the world. None of whom shot Hinckley.

••

What the gun nuts staunchly refuse to acknowledge is the AMOUNT of damage guns can do in a very short amount of time. In the time it takes for even a well trained armed response, dozens of people can already be injured and/or dead.

From Lt. Col Dave Grossman a foremost expert in this field:
"Research on the background of our juvenile mass murderers show they have one thing in common: they ALL dropped out of life and filled their lives with nothing but violent movies and violent video games. The sickest video games and the sickest movies are very very sick indeed. And the sick sick kids who immerse themselves in this "entertainment" are very sick indeed".

Klebold and Harris were huge "Doom" fans.  Even creating their own levels.  Much like how they orchestrated Columbine.  Havind 3rd and 4th Acts.  their cars were filled with gasoline and bombs to drive into responding media and emergency services.  Vehicles were also parked in interlocking arcs of fire.  All of this mapped out from the comfort of their home and through the advent of cyberspace and video games.

Active killer in Oslo also used video games as a simulator and precursor to executing 69 people on an island masquerading as a police officer...

But to say everything BUT guns are the problem with this case (and society) is just plain pig-headed.  These nuts idolize guns above all else... moreso than even their God and their country.

The word `Goth` was also bandied about by the media in a lot of those killings, but that ignores the millions of Goth type youths who DON`T commit mass murder.THE common denominator in all those cases is the use of guns, not just any old farmer`s shotgun, but assault rifles.

So reading this thread it becomes painfully obvious that the NRA Not Adam lanza committed these murders. Adam was to cause more Harm and destruction no matter what the gun laws were. is there such a disconnect with reality here?

People can say guns aren't the issue but these mass murderers wouldn't be able to carry out their deranged plots without them.  They carry as much ammunition they can carry, all picked up at the local Wal Mart.  Access and plentitude of weapons and ammunition to feed them is a huge issue.

The gun lobby always lumps ammo ownership into their 2nd ammendment argument.  Yet the 2nd amendment says nothing about the right to own ammunition.  If people want guns and the privilege to buy ammunition, they should have to pass a mental health exam, a vision check and some species of firearm safety certification.  You should need a permit to buy ammunition.

Isn't that close to a Chris Rock joke? Guns can be owned but every bullet costs a million dollars so people think twice about really using them?

Simple logic and morality is all it boils down to - while the NRA continues to hobble any attempt to remove military-grade weapons from civilian society, it's all-too easy for a disturbed individual to get their hands on said weapons, and the result is all-too-often tragedies of this nature.

Or in other words: no, no-one is stupid enough to suggest that the 'NRA committed these murders'. But unless things change, they'll be (not so) indirectly setting up the dominoes for the next shooting - and the next one, and the one after that...

To paraphrase an old (Carlin?) joke:

The NRA would like to ban all video games with guns in them... but they wanna keep the f___ing real ones!

I'd be surprised if the NRA really wanted to BAN violent videogames. They'd lose a prime scapegoat, maybe even have to accept RESPONSIBILITY!

Mr. Bill Voice: Oh, no-ooooohhhhhhhhh!!!!
