This stuff doesn't surprise me anymore. They're just seeing what shit they throw on the wall sticks.
Luckily, I still have Captain Carrot in my long box when I want to visit.

I think "shitting on them" is an unfair statement. The original is left untouched and still usable if anyone is so inclined. The only thing this has in common with the original is wearing yellow and the homophone of the name. He isn't Rodney. I think it probably is more of a response to Rocket Raccoon.

Of course it is. But don't be surprised when you eventually learn that his real name is something like R'od N'ee.
What bugs me most about the new Captain K'Rot is that I designed this a few years ago as part of a bigger project.
You can imagine my frustration.

DC's plan seems to be a "let's throw up the most absurd concepts and see how the public reacts to it!" approach... whatever gets them some buzz i suppose is a good thing to them.

Here is why I'm not worried about this. (Surprised maybe--OK maybe a little scratching my head, why???.) This is a Keith Griffen project. He's not NuDC, he's been writting/plotting DC since before Crisis and is responsible for some of the best storylines out there. (OK, he has written bad stuff too, but I would rather gamble on him then against him.)
DC wants him to do for DC's cosmic arena what he did for Marvel's comic arena. (Another case of DC chasing Marvel, which is not a good thing.)

If this increases the chances of my seeing a nice collection of the original Roy Thomas/Scott Shaw! stuff, then I'm in favor of it.
Captain K'Rot seems ridiculous, but DC publishes tons of stuff I find ridiculous, so what's one more thing. And the odds that DC would otherwise do something I'd enjoy with the Zoo Crew are pretty much zero, so I'm not going to complain that they're doing something ridiculous instead of continuing to ignore the character.

The Star Wars bunny was my first thought upon seeing that image.
Seems the killer bunny gag has been around for a long, long time.

I bet Space Usagi would make sort work of K'rot.
