Ron Frenz.
Phil Winslade

I would also agree about Lee Weeks.

And a couple of guys from my childhood who I think never get enough credit - Ross Andru and Dick Dillin.

a lot of the guys I liked when I first saw their work have since become superstars. I like that Rick Leonardi is mentioned. I always enjoyed his marvel comics presents:Colossus story and I love Brett Blevins. I can't believe that so many people don't like his work (or didn't when he was doing New Mutants).
Lee Weeks has worked on a number of high profile stuff that I just figured he was a superstar, but maybe I don't know where the line is drawn.

I agree with Kerry Gammill and Rick Leonardi.
I'd add Keith Pollard and I think that MIke Plogg could've had more attention that he had at his time.

Paul Pelletier, Lee Weeks, and Chris Sprouse are three that come to mind.

RON FRENZ!!!

Ron is one of those artists that it seems like everyone likes but no one really pays a whole lot of attention to.  He has had runs on THOR, SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-GIRL and others that are about as good as anything out there!

Keith Pollard with ink wash by Alfredo Alcala.
He sure knew how to draw hard punches.

Jim Aparo

Dick Dillon

I'm partial to Trevor Von Eeden but maybe not superstar status.

Another vote for Paul Pelletier here. I fell in love with his work back when he was penciling the Ex-Mutants for Malibu Comics back in the early/mid 90's. He had such a clean style and a bit cartoony, which made it beautiful to look at.

I followed him around as he then did some stuff for DC and Marvel later on, but he never seemed to get a regular assignment, more like story arcs, annuals, that sort of thing.

Curt Swan should be a superstar. Swan is the next best Superman artist after JB, so he should be a superstar.

Added: I'm sure he is, but he's not mentioned as much as he should be.

Is it easier for artists with a very distinctive abstract style like Walt Simonson, Mike Mignola or even Bill Sienkiewicz to become fan favorites?
