ALPHA FLIGHT is one of the titles often cited by those who insist I "never" stay on books for the long haul. * * * Must admit I have always found that curious, particularly given that the 28-issue run includes three - count them! - "double-sized" issues. For me, these 28-issues are my favourite run on any comic by any creative team, with such an eclectic array of stories. The aforementioned double-issues incredibly juggle nine (issue 1) and ten (both issues 12 and 24) current or future members of the team without ever feeling crowded. And due to the solo or small-team adventures that made up issues 5-11 and 13-23, these felt like a real event. Certainly when I was reading these in my very early teens, I had never experienced any series like it before and I struggle to think of a time when I have since. It may not be your favourite series, JB, but a big thanks from me.

Be ever vigilant. I was in the same position as you were. Missed the boat on Vol 1 and by the time I got around to looking for it, the cheapest price I could find was over $50. I just happened to visit my LCS about a year ago when he was running a 50% off sale on all TBP and what do I find tucked away in the Marvel section? Vol 1. Paid the exorbitant price of $12.50.
They're out there. Just keep looking!

If you'll send your real world address to Matt's forum email, he can forward it to me, and I'll send you my "spare". Just don't tell anyone about it! Ruin my reputation!

Very cool of you, JB!
Larry, I've had a blast reading the ALPHA FLIGHT trades. My collecting weakness is JB trades, and I love reading them even when I have the original issues. I've built quite the library, and missing something is pang inducing, so I feel your pain. What a fantastic resolution!

JB,
That is awesome of you! I am sure Larry is going to enjoy Alpha Flight v.1, I just purchased v. 3 myself.
Your Alpha Flight work still reads as well as it did all those years ago... it truly is timeless.
Marc

There hasn't been an Alpha Flight Essentials, has there? But they've done Dazzler! --- How do the decision-makers at Marvel rationalize that?

They tend to Essentialize things that aren't already available in another format.

Not so much anymore. They'll keep with the money-makers, like X-Men (now hitting the end of Claremont's run), and then re-tread with the older stuff. When they make a change to the trade-dress, BAM -- start over at #1. Hate it, I'm waiting for ESSENTIAL HULK Vol. 7 to get the rest of Roger Stern's run and the start of Bill Mantlo's...
