I think that TPB 3 cover looks excellent.

I didn't follow Alpha Flight regularly much longer that JB's run. Curious if they'll continue to the TPB of the following issues. Either way, glad these have been collected.

Wouldn't have thought so but then the Mantlo/Milgrom Hulk issues turned up in two fat TPBs recently so who knows.

I have to agree with all the comments on the colouring, but the title design bothers me just as much. It's not quite the one used on the original comics; why bother changing it? Or, for volume 3, why not use the very different title that adorned AF for those issues? Strange. On that note, JB, if I may ask, please, were the titles designed by you? And what led to the decision to change it later in the run? I always loved the second one - very different to anything that appeared on comics at that time.

I actually like the recolored covers -- not that I think they're colored that well -- I just like seeing something old done in a new way. I've still got the old covers to look at.

Matthew -- I did not design the original ALPHA logo, but I did come up with the second, looking for something closer to the ROM effect. Of course, as most of you know, I did not name the team "Alpha Flight", either. Wasn't happy with that name, but was pretty much stuck with it.

On the recolored trade cover, it looks like Talisman is nude with some yellow straps on her.

Embarrassing confession: I've never read Alpha Flight! When I discovered JB's work, it was just about the time he was leaving AF. I loved his work and followed him on every title he did after that, for Marvel, DC, and later with Next Men and the rest. When it came to hunting down his older work, I sought out back issues of FF, X-Men, etc, but somehow never got to exploring Alpha Flight, probably because JB's work on those more prominent Marvel characters kept me busy enough. I do own the first issue of AF, which I bought as a back issue years later, but I've never read the rest of the series. Maybe now, with these trades, it's time.

I was in a similar situation, Aaron - I had bought the first few issues before having to give up comics. I was enjoying comic books, I just couldn't afford them!
So I didn't read all of AF until much later. You're in for a treat - JB's ALPHA FLIGHT is amazing.
I must warn you that getting that first trade may be a challenge. It sold out and, last I checked, the prices were running kind of high for a trade. Maybe tracking down the original issues could be cheaper, and more rewarding.

I'll probably do that someday soon, Tim. I know Dave Pruitt usually seems to have those issues available. Although I do love the access that collections like Essentials give us to older books that would be ridiculously expensive due to age, I still prefer actual single issues when I can get them cheaply.
