Power just went out. Now, for how long?

JB, just curious...when our power goes out it takes out the cable and the wireless as well. How do you still manage to post?

Made it to work, left early when winds got worse. Drive home was dangerous but made it. Power is out at home now.

I never was at work today.  I was doing some artwork in the bedroom while waiting to take off when I came out and saw two phone messages (my hearing isn't that great, and my door was closed) from my brother informing me that the work day was canceled.  I'll be sure to have the cell phone on tomorrow morning in case there's another cancelation call.

Right now, of course, Sandy is crossing New Jersey and appears to have taken on the characteristics of a particularly strong Nor'Easter.  The tropical aspects are almost all gone.  Still windy as heck, but it looks like her path will take her north of my house, which means that I'll end up inside the band of heavy rain wrapping around her southwestern quarter for the rest of tonight.  The winds have shifted around to the west.

There was a two-second blip on the power around 6:00 tonight, but it came right back on.  Looks like I could luck out.  I know that other aren't so lucky, especially on the Jersey Shore and in NYC where the storm surge has had its effect.  By daybreak tomorrow, I may see just how much damage has been done with all the wind gusts, flooding, etc.

Signing off.

My area is getting a good bit of rain and wind. The worst is supposed to come at midnight but hopefully we'll keep power. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you guys that are in the thick of this mess.

Talked to my mom in West Virginia. They're getting some gnarly wind
and rain but the worst for them might come later in the week: they
might flood as late as Thursday.

We lost power for about two hours.  Luckily my laptop was fully charged, so we watched a movie during the downtime.  Even during the storm, the power company was outside repairing.  By the time the movie was over, power was restored.

The wind is still pretty fierce, but there's not much rain.
