So, onto the next crisis -- NO GAS.
My wife started waiting on a line, but it was looooooooooong, and she got off and drove to where the stations were and discovered that these dozens and dozens of cars were all waiting in vain: NO GAS TO BE HAD.
Man...!

We're having an art show in our gallery this friday to raise money for a local animal shelter. The shelter planned to have adoptable cats and dogs at the show. Specifically animals that could handle a crowd.
Due to Sandy... the shelter had to be completely evacuated, so the 1/2 dozen dogs that were intended for the event went home with volunteers....who decided to adopt all of them.
So something good came out of it.

I FINALLY got my power back tonight. There were no trucks on the street 30 minutes before it came back. There was one when it did. Therefore I needed to wait over a week and a half for work that took at most a half hour to do. Heads better roll at LIPA over this.

So glad for you, Vinny. I felt your pain! We had a house guest this weekend who also only got restored tonight, as did many in the neighborhood. The night my power came back it was a situation just like yours -- no sign of a truck, for 9 days and then, boom, one night, there it was, just one, and within a half hour... power.
What a misery. What the HELL has LIPA been up to?

John Byrne: "As noted, I plan to look into a generator myself."
So are we! I have never, in my entire life living in Connecticut, had two hurricanes barely a year apart (the last real hurricane being in 1985!), with snow falling shortly after the hurricanes.

This was all out of kindness, and much appreciated (tho I did not take anyone up on their offers). At least, it was appreciated AT FIRST. But by about Day Five it started to get. . . tiresome! I said to a couple of my friends that I was beginning to understand what it must be like for people with nasty diseases. Cancer, say. Well meaning friends ask "How are you doing?" in just THAT tone. And after a while telling the same tale -- "I'm good! Hanging in there! Soldiering on! Thanks for asking!" -- becomes wearisome.

Interesting. I had the same reaction after the Northridge earthquake after a few days. It was an odd sort of anger I felt. Not sure why either.

A dozen tree, 340 plus powerless hours, a few appliances, more than a few dollars in food, but I I finally have power back.

Larry yeah a lot from what I have heard from people, or officials, in the area. I am surprised that weeks later they're in this shape. Something like 25,000 stuck in housing without utilities in New York City due to Hurricane Sandy per the New York Housing Authority.
