Glad to hear it, JB. I'm going into day 8 of no-power. Really it does make one feel powerless.

Hang in there, Michael!A funny thing about last night, when the power came on, was how noisy my house suddenly became. The refrigerators, the furnace, the water purification system, and the house alarm all came on at once! I'd forgotten how much "background noise" there really is in the running of a normal house.

Glad to hear your power is back! Hope you and the pets are ok.
I know what you mean abot the noise. The last time I was without power for about a week it nearly drove me crazy how hard it was to sleep. I realized I was missing all of the ambient noise in my house while at the same time was more aware of any noise outside of my house. Every little creak would cause me to think "what was that?"

When the power came back on I said to my son' We should abuse this power and flip the light switch on and off' But we looked at each other with that look like oh lets not tempt fate.

Not because the power was out, but because the house is "out in the woods". After twenty years living two blocks from an Interstate, the SILENCE out here was borderline oppressive! One of the things that freaked me out was a window frame in the TV room. When the sun comes over the top of the house around noonish, and bathes the metal frame in sudden heat it lets out with a BANG that sounds like the furnace exploded. Took a LONG time to get used to it!

When our power was out, I kept hearing noise outside that seemed as loud as a large truck, so I'd run to the window hoping to see the electric company's repairmen in the area, only to find a small Toyota or Honda driving past. The sound of passing cars was magnified by the lack of the usual background noise.

Three loads of laundry done, run the dishwasher, vacuumed the TV room. Housecleaners come today to do the rest. The new normal should be the old normal pretty soon.Well, if the election comes out the way it should, anyway.

My ears ring a little from all that loud music I listened to as a younger man. When the power goes out, the silence drives me crazy cus I can hear the ringing without that background noise covering it up.

I wondered if the power never came back on for anyone how long would have it taken everyone to adjust to the new way of life.
