156+ hoursStill nothing. Noises and possibly the "quaint cries of workmen" in the distance, but the acoustics around my house are very odd, so it's not really possible to tell where these sounds are coming from. Predicting now that I'll be waiting the full ten days or more. Damn cold in the house. Spent time yesterday sitting on the terrace. Counter-intuitively, it was actually warmer outside!

JB, would a backup generator be an option for you at least for partial power? What with the hurricanes and tornadoes we have in the deep south, they've almost become basic home equipment down here.
-PARDON-- Just saw the exchange about this back on page 2. Sorry about that.

In a half hour I have to leave the warmth of my friends' home... and head back to the freezer (my home). Will this be the seventh straight full day of no-power?

Sitting in Huntington waiting for my first train back to the city to leave. It was SO hard getting out of bed this morning, since our goose down comforter actually keeps us warm at night.

Just came back from a run to the grocery store. Not my usual shop, but life seeming almost normal there. Shelves all stocked. Passed a repair crew the equivalent of a couple of blocks from my house, and didn't see any damage between them and here, so, who knows? A friend texted this morning to say she's praying for me. I said that might actually work AGAINST me!

We got hit really hard by Sandy. I am in Little Ferry, NJ and we had over 4 feet of water in the house. I lost a ton of original art and comics. My truck. Furniture and other personal items. Fortunelty no one got hurt. We still have no hot water or heat and my parents lost a lot of stuff as well. Power is sporadic at best. Hopefully FEMA and the insurance companies will come through. I hope everyone is safe and that you had no major damage to your home or your lives.

Glad you're healthy, Joe! Sorry about the personal items, that stinks. Good luck with the insurance claims.
It's tough to read about how long the response time has been to get power back for some of you. I understand that the power companies can't do it all at once, but just confirms my thoughts on getting a stand-by generator. Companies just are ill equipped to quickly get power on for everybody, especially on such a large scale and for those of us outside metro centers.
Good luck everybody.

Joe, that must be quite a blow to lose all of those comics and art samples, but at least you're alive and intact. I'd hate to come home to all of that, but there have been close calls in recent years. Hopefully you can get some of the comics back, although the original art can't be replaced.
