Tony, not to give too much away, but you might also want to check out Brave & Bold 150, the Batman and "?" issue. Just saying is all... (whistles)...

Brian, I know of what you speak. ; )

I felt that you had the best of both worlds when Detective had Breyfogle and Batman had Aparo. Breyfogle was flashier but Aparo was solid. I enjoy Norm Breyfogle but I see Jim Aparo's Batman in my head when I picture him.

I would have to say that Aparo has had as much an influence on my work as John Byrne has had. I think it would have been neat to see Jim Aparo on X-Men.

I have always greatly loved Jim Aparo's art.
I grew up on his Brave and the Bold issues but while his Batman was the definitive one for me as a kid, Aparo remains the ONLY artist for AQUAMAN.

PRIME was great while it was self contained. Once they connected it
to the Ultraverse, the train derailed. I love Breyfogle's art and wish he
got more work. But, he's no Jim Aparo.

I have a signed limited edition hardback that collects the first 5 issues of Prime...have been tempted to pick up the following issues. Where would you suggest stopping Stephen?

I don't think I've ever read a Jim Aparo book that didn't star Batman, so I can't speak to his other work at all, but his Batman is my Batman.  My prime Batman reading years were the Jim Aparo and Norm Breyfogle years, and I liked them both, but Aparo was my favorite.

I need to seek out his issues of The Brave and the Bold, just to get a feel for him working on a variety of characters.

Oh, man, this topic is close to my heart. Depending on what day you ask me, I might say Aparo is my *favorite* comic book artist.

...that is to say, 1970s Aparo inking Aparo is my favorite. His later work is good, solid, professional, but compared to his zenith I find it hard to enjoy.

If anyone has the Wrath of the Spectre TPB, look at the Adventure Comics stories & compare to the new story at the back of the book. Perfect example of what I'm talking about.

You're absolutely on the money there Kevin. Isolated it's still really good but right next to the earlier Advenure Comics stuff, it pales in comparison.

Brave and the Bold was the only Batman title I bought every month. Aparo's art was one of the reasons.
