I love Aparo. I'm currently reading his Brave and the Bold run, and I recently finally got his complete runs on Aquaman, the Spectre and the Phantom Stranger. I was first introduced to him in the late 80's during his batman run with Jim Starlin, but I agree that his creative highpoint was the 1970's.

I wish Aparo had drawn more Superman. I really enjoyed the Batman-Superboy BRAVE AND THE BOLD he did, as well as the issue of BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS where Geo-Force fought Superman.

Richard White: "Gary, is the latter-day Hitler you mention the Satan story. ************************************************************ ************* Yes, Richard. The bad guy could have been either or both Adolf and Old Scratch. We readers had to decide for ourselves... what a scary moment for us!

Gary, what a great story that tale is. You just get the impression that writers of that era had read books!

Aparo is wonderful. His self inked stuff is among my favorite art of all time. Batman, Aquaman, Spectre - terrific! Very underrated artist.
I would also give a nod to Don Newton, who died too soon and was an amazing Bat artist.

Jim Aparo is incredible. The Batman artist. The Spectre artist. The Aquaman artist. To me, he is up there with Curt Swan.

Loved Aparo. Possibly the first artist where I noticed his style for the right reasons. Definitely agree he was at his best when inked by himself.

I've got some pretty strong memories of Aparo on the Batman comic myself. He was the artist who stayed with the character the most, as Curt Swan did with Superman. There was a visual image I have of Bruce Wayne, followed by just how solid Aparo's storytelling technique was in spite of some of the conventions he stuck to (which other artists at the time were abandoning left and right). Amongst artists that I could believe "fit" the DC stable, Aparo ranks up there with Swan, Dick Giordano, Joe Kubert, Gil Kane and Carmine Infantino.
