I'm with John O'Connor: Major Matt Mason (despite his wire armature breaking all the time) Also, Dinky Toy's die-cast Thunderbird 2.

Star Wars and G.I. Joe made up the majority of my childhood but before that I got a Lone Ranger with Silver doll set made by Gabriel. The Lone Ranger was about the size of the Mego dolls but the clothing was better made. Silver came with a removable saddle and bridle as well. I loved that set.
Of course there also the Evil Kenevil Stunt cycle with wind up launcher too. A lot of fun was had with that doll as well.

RE: Dark Tower - My cousins had that game when we were kids and it was all kinds of fun. I used to have an emulator program that would let me play it on my pc and while it was fun, it wasn't quite the same as playing the actual board game.
Another fun board game another cousin of mine had was Superstition http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/8527/superstition
I was also partial to High Stakes http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6127/high-stakes
Monday Night Football http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/13031/abc-monday-night-fo otball
and of course the Marvel Super Heroes Strategy Game http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/11257/marvel-comics-super -heroes-strategy-game
Other than that it was the usual cadre of Star Wars and 3.75in G.I. Joe toys . . .

The original GI Joe was my all-time favorite closely followed by Lincoln Logs.

Ah, Major Matt Mason! Over in the Star Trek modeling thread, I mentioned what a thrill it was to walk into the toy department of Woodward's department store, in Calgary, and see the original AMT model kit of the Enterprise on sale -- I'd had no idea it was coming!Scroll back a few years for a slightly less happy, if very similar, moment. This time it was the toy floor of Woodward's in Edmonton, where I walked in one day to find Major Matt Mason had arrived, again without warning. See, the problem was, I had only recently decided (under pressure from parents and peers) that I was "too old" for toys, and the Major was part of a flurry of new items that the toy companies seemed almost to have been holding back waiting for my decision!

G.I. Joes, the 3 3/4" Larry Hama versions. ---------- Same here. Still got mine in a box, including some that were never properly released in Brazil, which I bought on Ebay a few years ago.

I had a mixture of action figures when I was a kid. I started with Star Wars and the Star Trek figures from ST:TMP. Later I got GI Joes and the Marvel Secret Wars figures. The real fun of them was turning them into what they were not. For example, if I wanted the X-Men, all I had was the Wolverine figure, so a GI Joe with a helmet and visor might become Cyclops, Dr. Doom without his cape was Colossus. Snake Eyes was Nightcrawler, etc.
