New BattleWorlds post! The Gunrunner in 3D
I just thought I'd share with you some art for the BattleWorlds 3D style guide. This spaceship is John Night's arms smuggling vessel / war machine, The Gunrunner. This ship is important to the character, so I wanted to invest some time to get it right.
Design Origins: Back when I was designing the character, I thought of what type of vehicle this vigilante should have. He also doubles as the most effective arms smuggler for EarthForce, bringing in weapons for whatever is left of the Solar System’s once-mighty human military defense to help combat the Scorpion Empire. So my idea was to make this vehicle both a freighter for arms smuggling and a combat-ready medium-sized fighter.
I also wanted to shape the Gunrunner somewhat like John Night’s God-of-War round chest symbol. The challenge was to try to make it look like the symbol, yet make it seem functional.
In my first-ever sketch of what became the Gunrunner, I mapped out the basics.
Exterior sketch of the Gunrunner, isometric view.
Exterior cutaway shot of the Gunrunner. I tried thinking of all the aspects of a working vehicle. Artillery, fuel, avionics, power cells, weapons, weapons and more weapons.

So by this stage, I've designed the Gunrunner to my liking. Now on to 3D. The following are quick-n-dirty renderings, but here I designed all the bump and textruremaps in Illustrator and dirty it up in Photoshop. I bring it into the wireframe and load em up accordingly. I assign lighting for my construction stage, and red mood lighting for the final interior cargo/arsenal area rendering. Take a look:

Well that's it for now. Hope you like these little tidbits. Keep up the great work everyone!
