Can one of you incredibly talented types please let me know what dpi works best when scanning artwork? For example, JB's commission pieces; how do you guess he goes about scanning those beauties?
Thanks for any help!

Hm....take a guess at what JB thinks or does....led people to dangerous ground before, so I'll pass on that.
I personally scan pages in @ 300dpi and either leave it as is, take it down to 200 for art projects, or 72dpi for web graphics.

I also scan at those resolutions for standard works; just keep in mind that enhancing resolution is not back compatible.
For example, if you want to scan something that you will show on the web- that's 72. But somewhere along the road you want to print out your work hi-res for your portfolio- but at 72 dpi, printouts will not look good. If you know this piece may well become a good portfolio printed piece and you also want to show it on the web, use forward thinking and scan at 300 dpi, and keep your scan and image editing files (Photoshop, Painter) at 300 dpi.
For Hi-res publishing, I scan my client's works at 1200 dpi, but that's only for super high quality printing purposes.
Good luck!

Damn good to have you back Ed! I was actually thinking of you today as I was finishing an inked piece and my "bad" eye refused to focus. Glad to see the tablet is helping too. They're great aren't they?

Nice work , Ed. I wish it was bigger.
Chris M- Beautiful pencils, really nice touch.
Stephen- Also nice work, I like how you inked the leather and the attitude.
With my Dad in town I don't know when I'll finish this piece. Here is a detail (actually a lot of it got into the scan): Clash of Titans II (pencil for now):
