A quick pencil sketch.

[edited to add] Oh, and for the record, Fritz is speaking an actual language
that I created for a gaming world and thought looked appropriately arcane
enough to use for a magic language. If anyone's interested, I have the
translation.

Nice stuff John, has a real Phil Foglio vibe to it.

Here is something I did for a weekly Jam at R3.

Thanks, Vladimir -- I consider that high praise, as he is definitely one of my
favorite cartoonists. One of the criticisms my fellow Kubies used to give me
was that they thought my work was too derivative of Phil Foglio's work, but
Foglio himself told me that while he saw the influence, he thought my work
stood on its own. Frankly, I was content with being a Foglio clone, so to have
the man himself tell me that he liked my work, that he didn't think it was
derivative, and that he wanted to see more from me was, well, as much a
thrill as getting to hang out with John Byrne online.

Nice piece, by the way -- I especially like the use of color.
