Ah, well. What was it Mandy Patinkin's de Musset screams in the face of Hugh Grant's Chopin in Impromptu? "ART!! Does NOT!! Apologize!!!" In the article for Avengers Arena, I enjoyed the expansive lengths the project's editor went to expounding upon how this theme of the elder generation sending youth to die in combat has been used throughout CENTURIES of storytelling... Yeahhh, but, y'know... Yer still jus' rippin' off Hunger Games here, junior. And Hunger Games may be ripping off Battle Royale. But You're specifically ripping off Hunger Games. None of the other examples, including those given by Emery, concerned a cast of teenagers we the lip-smackingly morbid audience get to know personally and then watch get slaughtered one-by-one by their fellow kid competitors. The age range is too specific. Put another way, if gladitorial combat is as historically prevalent as is put forth here, why'd you suddenly pick NOW to spin this particular yarn? Cause'a Hunger Games... I feel badly for the creators who did what creators are supposed to do and CREATED new characters for series such as Young Avengers and Avengers Academy and now get to watch the "blood caked on the walls and flesh flying out the windows to incommoding the passersby" that Marvel is making of their contributions. So much for the notion of new heroes ever showing up at Marvel. Coming soon to the House of Other Peoples' Ideas: More HULKS!!! Wooooo, Baby!!!
