Just read online from New York Daily News.  Major hero kills another major character in Avengers v. X-Men #11.

Quoting Bendis: "“He was this thing that was just floating around the X-books, with not the same amount of gravitas that he once had,” says Brian Bendis, who wrote the issue. “I did point out that he would matter more in death.”

Or maybe they just can't write.   It doesn't seem to matter anymore.

(shaking my head)

I'm betting it's Cyclops.  I hope so anyway.  He'd be better off dead.

Heard about this too. At this point, who even raises an eyebrow at the death of a major character? It seems every "big event" needs have at least one headline-grabbing death.

Adding to the pointlessness of the exercise, is the fact that it's just a matter of when, not if, the character resurfaces.

Bullshit.  A character only has as much importance as a writer, editorial staff and company gives them.  There have been a multitude of characters who have faded from view, been underused or who don't have "the same amount of gravitas" that they once had turned around by a skilled writer and an editoral staff willing to shepherd them. Killing a character off just to give them "gravitas", to make them "matter more in death", is so cliche now as to be absurd.  Quite simply for me, it's a copout.

So glad I left Marvel years ago.  How much time will said character spend behind bars?

Snipped from the article:

Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort promises, ÒThis is about as serious and lasting a death as youÕre apt to get in one of these.Ó

They have spent the last 12 years (or more) demonizing and ruining this character. This is nicest thing they've done to him in many many years

So he'll be back in two years rather than one. Is there anyone left gullible enough to buy into these stunts?

I'm less concerned with the death of the character than the continued pissing on the character who did the killing.
