Black and White was how we old geezers reading Marvel UK saw JB's stuff for the very first time - Avengers #187 and the second half of X-Men #137 don't seem quite right in colour to my eyes!

••

Same here -- tho in my case it was Superman and Batman in hardcover "annuals".

I've told the story many times of how, drawing the vintage Batman who appeared in BATMAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA, as he came out of my pen and pencil in black and white upon the page, my feeling was "Oh, hi! I know you!"

Can't stop looking at this one for some reason. Obviously, I really like it.

Really nice commission.  Neat to see less familiar characters.  I now need to go back and re-read this series. Congrats, Kevin.

I like it. I'm not really familiar with the characters, except for the Mandarin, but the piece sure is a lot of fun!

Looking again at the picture...the four characters really look their best here! Love how the texture on Flatiron indicates the light from the blast! The Mandarin looks dynamic and imposing, which must have been a challenge, given the outfit he´s wearing! And the Black Fox is just too cool for words...that left foot is perhaps my favorite element of the whole drawing!

I found the Black Fox to be a VERY interesting guy under the mask! He had had a thing with Pixie and his career in the judiciary and even his comments on Nixon...LG was really a memorable series!

The Black Fox was one of the characters I had the most fun "building" in this series. Since, like Pixie, he was entirely mine, with no input from Rog, I was able to toss in bits and pieces as they came to me, which is always a fun way to go.

His history, starting as a happy-go-lucky Robin-like character (tho an adult), and "darkening" thru the years, was of course a commentary to some degree on what had happened to superhero comics in general.

Ah, I was wondering about that! Thanks for answering the question I didn´t voice!

Interesting! This I don´t recall noticing...I may have to brush up on LG!

Talk about throwing pearls to the swine...clearly, Marvel wasn´t ready to have such a treasure trove of characters delivered to their front door!

Especially considering that the LG smells like MARVEL*!

(*and kudos for Al Milgrom for his no-nonsense inks!)

Corben. Flatiron was inked by Corben.
Right?
(never read this series, but wish I could)
