I love seeing Kirby's work interpreted and inked by different artists! Whatifkirby.com has some great stuff as later in his career, Kirby would actually photocopy his pencils before sending them off to be inked! So we have this treasure trove of various pencils by the king!

Its pretty awesome to see JB's take on the pic, thanks for taking the time to do it!

JB, if I may be so bold, it looks like "your" Spidey tends to have a nice combo of Romita and Ditko... the clean, precise linework of Romita, coupled with 2 or 3 extra webbing lines on Spider-Man's costume (both vertical or the looping horizontal), much like Ditko's earlier work.  Romita didn't seem to draw quite as much "webbing," which gave it a slightly expanded look.

Does that make any sense?

My curiosity was piqued, so applying the same "rules" as Frank. . .

Looking at that picture, just reinforces what a shame it was that JB never got to work with the King.

One of the things that I really enjoy about The Forum is random things like this.  Seeing a Kirby Spider-Man inked by FM and then inked by JB is very cool and brings a smile to my my face.

Looking at FM's inks on this drawing makes me think he was trying to "fix" some of what he may have considered Jack's off model interpretations but in a very respectful way.

JB's inks are great as always.  He didn't go for the over the top melodrama like FM.

Re JB's inking: There you go, way better. And I do mean better, not just different.

You can see it's Kirby but know it's Byrne that inked it - and I agree, the buildings are a dead giveaway - it's the shadows and the details in the windows - does it everytime.

The Miller piece looks like a Miller piece, this looks like a collaboration and doesn't overpower the pencils.

JB did the job of any Kirby inker in the 60's:  Preserve its Kirbyness, while also correcting it to stay on model as a non-Kirby character.

Mike Royer, a 70's Kirby inker: Take what the man did, and go with it.  You finish it and tighten it up, but if he made any changes to the model you don't change it back.

Miller: Just have fun and be Frank Miller with the layout.
