Seems like this was done late in Jack's career. Does anyone know exactly when Kirby penciled it?

Guess I'm in the minority, but I think it looks great. We can pick the nits, but this one image looks more intriguing and mysterious to me than anything M***** has been churning out for the past 10 years or so.

The forearm webbing doesn't bother me too much. What really detracts from the image, for me, is the facial webbing. The curves of the webbing should dip inward, toward the center. Like, dare I say it, a spider's web. Here, as he did in other places, Kirby draws the curves bulging outward, away from the center--like flower petals. I don't think there's anyone who seriously contends, anymore, that Kirby designed the costume of the Spider-man that actually saw publication. But here's additional evidence that he didn't, or at least evidence that if he did, Ditko corrected it.

I like that it's recognizable as both Kirby and Miller, and Spider-Man. I would happily frame it and hang it on the wall next to my other pieces.

Not my cup of tea, definetly.
And since it's FM, it gives me the feeling that Spider-Man is coming to punch people to death, instead of saving anyone.
The other one is pretty cool!

I love Frank Miller's art up until about 1982. Then he changed his style SO drastically, I don't quite know what he was thinking. But I haven't cared for it since. *******
You're probably a Miller inked by Janson fan then. The DAREDEVIL work for example was 50% Janson if not more. I love how Miller's art has evolved. Personally I much prefer SIN CITY to DAREDEVIL from a purely art perspective.

Here's JB's quick take on Kirby's Spider-Man design from a few years ago.

Kirby never really had a firm grasp on Spider-Man, and Miller's inks only make it even more off model.

I like 'em both. The Royer piece may be less off-model but not by that much. Again, fun one-offs that I wouldn't want to see in the regular books.

That picture looks like two clashing art styles. Very strange.

Early-to-mid 1970s, according to the editor's note at the beginning of the book in which it appears (Jack Kirby's Heroes and Villains). Here's a short article:
http://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/kirby/archives/141
And just for the heck of it, I dug out my copy and made a scan of the page with "Spiderman":

I love Frank's inking of this piece. Like Dan said it is both Kirby and Miller at the same time. I can't stop looking at it.
