The dudes at Project Rooftop have dug out the Alex Ross redesigns that were not taken for the X-Men in the early 2000's. Ross' sketches contain some mentions of the Havok costume effect.

The Alex Ross school of costume design: Do they have a chest symbol/emblem? Make it bigger!

Best Avenger villain!

For a second I thought "but he never got around to that storyline --
Age of Ultron", and the future storyline came out of Avengers Next,
but then I remembered Janet-Ultron. Not the best Ultron story, true.

Alex Ross, indeed, was trained and worked in advertising and storyboarding before getting into comics.

I think Ross is a pretty terrific artist, but those costumes are pretty terrific-ally bland.

I see JRJr's preview pages for the new Cap are up. He is at least trying to make it more like the original by giving Cap back the wings and exposed ears.

I sometimes joke about that being the origin of Tony Stark's "Please tell me nobody kissed me!" line in THE AVENGERS movie.
