If this was a planned April Fools prank, it couldn't have been executed any better.  Guess the joke's on all of us.

What's the purpose in having a Marvel Movie U, an Ultimate U and the regular U when it all looks and smells the same?

If I could win about a billion dollars in Megaball, I'd buy Marvel out and turn all creative over to Neal Adams, JB, the Romitas, Peter David... really, as many of the creators who made the Silver Age so fun as want to and create a Marvel Renaissance.  I'd reset all continuity* and say: Go forth and do as Stan, Steve and Jack did in the 60s.

So, cross your fingers for me.

*Unless those creators who know far better than I disagree.

...y'know what? Sorry to be crude, but **** this ****. All of it. 'The Dark Knight', 'The Amazing Spalding-Man', 'Marvel NOW', 'The New 52' - everywhere I turn, people are screwing up these characters and consigning the classic versions more and more to the history books.

----

I just read this article on Newsarama. I don't know a thing about the Red Circle characters from Archie Comics, but this sounds like it's exactly the cure for my Marvel and DC superhero blues.

I've really been loving the Mega Man comic that Archie puts out. As a long time fan of the character (played all the games when I was a kid) it's really incredible to see what a cynic might simply refer to as an "intellectual property" being treated with such respect, such consistency, and so much fun!

I'm in for their New Crusaders comic for sure in September!

It's sad when I can no longer collect Spider-Man or Superman, but at the same time it's like being 8 again and discovering Trio, New Crusaders, and others for the first time, while simultaneously seeing characters I've loved for decades like Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and G.I.JOE being treated so well in modern incarnations.

Marvel? DC? Who needs 'em?! I've got IDW, Archie, Fantagraphics putting out Barks Duck Hardcovers. Geez, I'm GLAD I'm saving money on Batman and Captain America - I couldn't afford to get all this other great stuff if I was still buying that garbage!

Man! I'd love to see JB doing one of Archie's Super-Hero titles on a monthly basis.

Brian Hibbs column at CBR talks about his issues with Marvel Now. I
found it pretty interesting.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=40084

I used to love Marvel. I used to love DC. At one point I wanted to
work for either or both. But, I'm tired of them. I'm tired of the reboots.
I'm tired of the new number ones with no reason for them. I'm tired of
character redesigns. I'm tired of the giant crossover events. I'm tired of
them needing to "Change The Status Quo", and I'm tired of them
trying to sell me these at an almost $4 price for twenty-two pages.

Is it possible to get the printing cost down? Can't they off set some of
that with advertising? Has anyone noticed that except for house ads,
there really is no advertising in books anymore? How about using a
cheaper stock?I don't even like the glossy stock they use.

Is it possible that if one of the Big Two MUST do a crossover, that it
can be done in the annuals like they used to, and leave the monthlies
alone?

Do they realize how sad it is that the one thing they gave us, which is
three to five issue storylines instead of six to twelve issues, is only
because there artists can't stay on a monthly schedule much past that
with out missing deadlines?

The lack of business sense used in the production and distribution of
these books is just staggering. If Im ever to be published, I think I'll
attempt to find another route.

••

Aren't they down to 20 pages, these days?

Pages which, no matter what the count, do not contain an entire story?

You're right. So now we're paying the top price for less content.

I hope Archie's New Crusaders ends up in grocery stores over here like Archie's video game licenses have. I can pick up the American editions of Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man monthly (sadly no Sonic Universe) with only a small mark-up to the US price and it'd be great if New Crusaders would join the line-up.

I hope Hollywood is keeping Marvel well stocked with K-Y jelly.

Well, at least they gave Captain America knee pads in an effort to make him a little more comfortable...
