The artist who designed this Captain America obviously isn't paid by the hour.•• Seems more like it would be the other way 'round.

I really think Bryan Hitch is to blame for this. What he did to the costumes when he worked on the Ultimates has had too big an influence.
************************************************************ ********************
I can't blame Bryan Hitch. The designs he created for the Ultimates were suppose to work on the Ultimates because the Ultimates were not the Avengers. It was a different reality. In that he was successful.
I blame the people in Marvel that let the Ultimates reality "leak" into the regular reality. Now the Ultimate and regular universes are almost merged, which is wrong and defeats the purpose of having the Ultimate universe.

It was always part of the plan...unofficial though it may have been...that the Ultimate Universe version of Marvel's characters would eventually be phased in as the mainstream. The attitude was that the classic version of the characters that most of us love and revere would still exist...in the varioius reprints available as trades and hardcovers. Bryan Hitch isn't to blame for the over-design of certain characters. Hell, if you want to blame anyone blame Simone Bianchi. Those are his designs that are worn by several current X-Men characters including Cyclops, Wolverine and Colossus...and even he isn't to blame. It's just a reflection of the wishes of management/editorial. They are running the ship now. The creative element was relegated to the back of the line long ago.

The artist who designed this Captain America obviously isn't paid by the hour.•• Seems more like it would be the other way 'round. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As I read this in the clear light of day. I see I don't make sense. What I meant to convey was, The quicker you can finish one job and move onto another the more money you can make. If you are making x amount of dollars to do a project. the quicker you get it done the more money you make. The more time you have to do more work.

That Toth model sheet is pretty awesome. It also stresses the point that less can be more. I'm not against detail, but today's comics have taken it to an extreme level. Besides, I get reality just by looking around, when I read a comic, I want fantasy. The reality aspect of a comic, IMO, should be just enough to create a credible world for the fantasy I'm reading to inhabit. Captain America's new look doesn't really seem to be based on the reality they are going for. Is he trying to protect himself from knives and gun fire or will he be competing in next year's X GAMES? In any case, Cap is supposed to be incredible at hand to hand combat and carries a shield. Why does he need armor?

Hitch's earliest work has Alan Davis all over it. I think he's moved far enough away from him to stand on his own now, but here and there you can still see traces of Davis in there.
Maybe Earth-6.
:)
