I remember seeing a drawing of Superman recently which showed the bottom of his feet. The illustrator decided he needed big, thick, army-boot style treads on his feet.

I like the New 52 "Earth-2" Superman costume. Not that Jim Lee sketch so much, but as drawn by Nicola Scott in the first issue. No seams or kneepads, no "armor". She also draws an S-shield that has a more traditional look to it (I don't care for the E-2 Wonder Woman or Batman designs at all.)
Art Baltazar's SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES has a simplified version of the main New 52 super-suit that I wish DC would adopt. Without all the seams and lines (which, btw, seem inconsistent from artist to artist) I could learn to appreciate the current look.

Just wondered if the real problem with costume changing isn't the fact we all love the costume of the heroes as we first encounter them. I remember having a 40's issue of the JLA with the long trunks (in the 80's) and I could not care less as I loved the adventure in it. But saying that the late 70's and early 80's was my "classic" (let's say Yellowjacket, but through reprints in Spain I was also seeing Hank as Giant-Man, and I did not care, but I understood that the Kirby stuff was earlier history than the Korvac stuff). Saying that I did go off completely off comics in the early 90's, perhaps because of the pockets outfits (damn you Longshot) but mainly because they got so bloody confusing, and really not a lot have change, except some choice series. I guess, what I mean it doesn't matter to me that much as long as the artist on the book are good. It's when is bad I take offence on every detail as I am thinking of no longer reading the title.

Must admit, the only folks I've ever heard decry the trunks on, say, Superman and Batman's costumes are comic book fans. The non- comic book fans in my life—never heard a word about them when my hobby or super-hero movies come up in conversation. I think they just accept that super-hero costumes are super-hero costumes, trunks and all.

I mean, okay, it was the 70's and skin was in and all, but even as someone who's gay, I was uncomfortable with Cosmic Boy's costume...

Here's a pic from San Diego Pride. Looks like Grell designed the costumes:

Here's a pic from San Diego Pride. •• Oh, great! A costume parade where the people actually have the appropriate physiques, and. . . . .

Yep, from pretty much the introduction of those new outfits! One thing I've noticed is the busier the design, the quicker it is that an artist goes off-model. From the get-go, the new 52 Wonder Woman's outfit had different variations in her own title from what she was wearing in the "Justice League" comic.
