I think that's meant to denote the pulling of an object towards the center of whatever body its standing on.

The emblem makes sense if we think of it as a globe -- which I suspect was the intent -- with the arrows pointing toward center. Unfortunately, the eye tends to read an X first. Kind of like young me and those fish on Superman's chest emblem.

Depends....it never would have occurred to me to see the emblem as an
X...but now that you've brought it up, I can't unsee it!

I still have difficulty seeing fish on Superman's emblem, though.

I remember seeing the negative space fish on Superman's chest when I was just a few years old and collecting chewing gum cards of Superman: The Movie.

I'm guessing that, had the series continued (at least with another miniseries, if not an ongoing), Gravity would probably have updated his costume to include a less-confusing emblem!

In yet another of the book's nice touches, the one character who got the 'arrows in a globe pointing inward = gravity' connection was Spider-Man. Considering that Peter's a scientifically-minded smart cookie, there was something fitting about that bit that tickled me no end.

I also liked the fact that, despite being cut along traditional superhero costume lines, there were elements like the 'goalie gloves', and what look suspiciously like sneakers, that helped reinforce the idea that it was a home-made costume that a college freshman threw together. Compare that to both Spider-Man movie costumes, neither of which could have possibly been constructed without the resources and budget of a Hollywood costume department!

Gravity's original limited series was a fun one. I can't remember specifics but he was killed in another limited series that featured a bunch of different characters and then resurrected in the Fantastic Four as the Protector of the Universe. Not sure what they did with him but it was a typical Marvel move under this regime, take something simple and complicate it.

Never saw an X on Gravity's chest before. Now, it's all I see.

I really like Cyclops and Beast's graduation uniforms. I like the green and yellow of Jean's costume, but prefer her to have a mask covering her hair than just the domino-style mask. I think her first costume in X-Factor was my favourite.

I am fine with the graduation uniforms (except for the Angel's), especially when they were drawn by Neal Adams, but the original uniforms were just.... better!

Yes I do! Several years back, I was next to a FedEx truck at a red light and I just lazily glanced over and the arrow just popped right out at me! I was all proud of myself for the rest of the day for having seen it without being told. LOL

I didn't read many comics during the 90's but would pick one up from time to time.  The "fashion" trend that caught my eye during that era was the leather jacket phase.  The first time I saw Reed Richards stretching and Johnny Storm flamed on wearing leather jackets, I actually laughed out loud.  I also remember picking up a Morbius issue during the"Midnight Sons" line.  I thought to myself "You have got to be kidding me."  Trying a little too hard to be "edgy".  Little did I know that was only the beginning...it would get far worse.

Earlier today I was trying to find an image of the leather jacket clad FF and the search pulled up FF #375 on Marvel Wiki.  I started looking at all the covers thru #416.  What surprised me was the EiC was Tom DeFalco. I considered him one of the "old guard".  I can't believe he would go for such an idiotic look.
