my favorite issue is undoubtedly the annual by Jim Starlin with the Thing, Spider-Man, Captain Mar-Vell, the Avengers and Adam Warlock against Thanos.

++++++++++
Which I bought for $2.00 last week. Yay, me!

I bought that off the spinner-rack. As a kid, I remember thinking that I was getting SO MUCH for my money because of all the characters in that issue!

I don't think I've ever read an issue of Marvel Two-in-One. I think it had just about ended its run when I started getting into comics. Maybe next time I feel like going back issue hunting I'll look for some of those. There can never be too much Ben Grimm.

Count me in on the love for Marvel Two-In-One #7. The Thing at his finest.

*Edited to fix name of comic

Seriously, the Thing is a great adventure story character. He's a super-strong monster who's a pilot. He's has this sardonic resignation that can be hilarious, but he also has an iron-will and sense of "right".

Just as Dr. Doom works as a villian for nearly all the Marvel heroes, and could work for most of DC's stable, Ben Grimm would be interesting to read in a team-up with nearly any other super-hero. Even Batman.

Anyone that doesn't want to read a story where the Thing dons his Fantastic Four #1 duds and then helps Batman with solving a case, possibly involving Clayface, just does not like super-hero comics.

Footnote: I think Spider-Man works with many characters too, but other than the occasional "fish out of water" story, Spidey really needs to be in a city environment to "work". Also, I don't like Spider-Man teaming up with everybody. I like it when he's a bit of an outsider. Maybe 50% or so of the Marvel heroes being untrusting of him.

Will be checking out my Essential Marvel Two-In-One later this week. All this talk has me wanting to revisit those stories.

It's kind of a weird thing... I really enjoyed Jim's work, most of the time, but whenever Thanos showed up it felt like the stories took place on Earth Starlin, and were not connected with the "real" Marvel Universe.

Which is how the next Avengers movies is going to feel, I guess!!

I am really suspect to speak about this, because one of the very first comic books that I read, when I was about six, was Captain Marvel #29, in which the origin o Thanos is told and CM faces his inner demons and attains "cosmic consciousness". Lots of 70s pseudo-philosophy, but it was all mind-blowing for a kid. Still one of my favorites!

I have a wish list of old Marvel titles that I've been picking up at the LCS, when the owner bought a collection the other week he told me that he had a bunch on Marvel Two-in-One. I'll be diving into those once I finish my Champions run.
