It took me years to finally get around to reading WATCHMEN. I had mixed feelings about Moore's work before that. I liked FROM HELL a great deal. I liked the beginning of LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN but the routine got old quite quickly and I completely lost patience with it when he turned James Bond into a buffoon. So when the Watchmen movie came out and my LCS had a sale on the collected edition, I finally gave it a shot. I didn't like it. It made me tired. It committed the one sin that a superhero comic should never commit: it was no fun.

He called him "Jimmy" throughout the story, with no last name, but dropped enough hints and references to let everyone know who he was supposed to be.

I was never a fan of WATCHMEN. I read ten years after it's initial
release and it just didn't resonate with me. By that time, there were
already plenty of superhero comics that were following that formula.
I guess it was an interesting idea, but I like my heroes to be HEROES.
This was depressing.
A lot of people told me about LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY
GENTLEMEN . So I read it. Not very original, but interesting.
But not interesting enough for me to want to read further.
I think the only works by Moore I actually liked were TOM STRONG,
which was a blend of Doc Savage and The Fantastic Four, and JACK
B. QUICK which was came across to me as a blend of Tom Swift and
Dennis the Menace. They were both very fun reads. For me that's the
hook. Is it fun. That's why I read comicbooks.

Getting back to the WSJ story; I'm glad someone else is writing about
this. I get the impression that there's a chunk of fans and pros who
troll this forum when we talk about it here, that look at us like we're
"just those crazy Byrne Forum folks". That doesn't really bother me so
much as while they're busy doing that, there not talking about the
problems the industry has, or finding solutions. The story has taken a
few days to make waves, but it's finally getting people to talk about
the problems instead of mocking us for discussing them.

Finally read Watchmen about two years ago. I liked it. Wasn't blown away. But this bothered me: It is, at least on one level, a mystery. But it's a whodunnit with only one suspect. Seriously, is there any way anyone OTHER than Ozymandias could have been behind it all? Are any other legit suspects introduced?

This is just my opinion, but when I first read it, (I read it twice because
I didn't understand the hype after reading it the first time) I thought the
same thing. Then I figured it was just a plot device to showcase just
how messed up and human everybody was to the reader. If I felt the
characters existed to serve the story instead of the other way around,
I might have enjoyed it more.

Funniest thing about Watchmen? And I've said this before but think it deserves repeating here. Moore claims that the only person with super powers was Dr Manhatten. Except that he uses the brains from psychics in the squid. Psychics. That would be a super power.

Technically, yes. However, it depends upon your point of view. Many believers of woo believe that being psychic is a natural ability, some people are just more "sensitive" to it than others. Remember also, Moore is a mystic who claims to have actually communed with his gods. In those context, I would imagine, being psychic may not seem like anything special.
