JB, the more I look at this one, the more I love it. The three panel
setup just adds an extra dimension to the drama of the piece. Then
there's the grey tones. You've used them in the past, with great
success but this was taken to another level. In my original post, I
mentioned that this piece reminded me of the old B&W Magazines,
but I really think you've done a better job here with the grey tones
than I ever saw in one of them. You truly are a master of the medium.

Blair, you are one lucky guy. Congratulations sir!

The thing that is truly amazing about Wood's tonal work -- something I did not realize until I acquired the original art to the "MAD Comic Opera" several years ago -- is that much of it, such as the piece Nathan posted above, is done on Craftint boards. That's a chemically treated paper, like the Duoshade I used back on NAMOR and OMAC.

So, while my Spider-Man piece is done with multiple layers of gray tones, Wood was working with TWO. That remarkable piece, above, has only four "colors" -- black, white, and two shades of gray!!

This commission is marvelous. I love the idea of a storytelling commission. Surprised this concept hasn't been asked for earlier. Love the tone work. Great stuff all around, JB.
