You know, they DID that.

.......................................

What's sad is something I made up at the spur of the moment, that I was using as hyperbole, had in fact seen print and was supposed to be profound.  The creative juices were really flowing when they came up with that scene.

How did anyone let it happen?

••

If the scene was indeed the work of Bill Jemas, there would be no question of "let". This is, after all, the guy who decided HE was the one who should write Wolverine's origin.

Bill Jemas was also the "brains" behind "Marville":

-- And who said this about the then-new "Elektra" series, part of his "Bad Girls For Fanboys" initiative...

Bill Jemas: "...We have quite a few male readers who live in the basement of their parents' house in Queens. For them, an evening with Elektra is as good as it gets."

A few years ago, I was almost hired to write an adult parody about superheroes and their sex lives. The job ended up going to another writer, but a scene like the Hank and Jan one actually popped into my mind when thinking about the project. But never, ever, ever would it occur to me to do that with the REAL characters!

It's infuriating to see what's been done to Marvel and DC. Every time somebody here on the forum cracks a joke about what horrible idea will come up next, it turns out they've already stooped that low.

Geez...

What's the point of that Hank/Janet scene?? Does it add anything to any story?

In no time they'll be doing the same with Reed/Susan, or Ben/Alicia, Banner/Betty... the options are endless!

And the sales keep dropping... I wonder why?

It's my understanding Johns has disowned that scene, claiming it was actually the work of then-head honcho at Marvel, Bill Jemas.

I can believe it. Also I read somewhere that the dialogue before you actually see what Hank and Jan are doing was to give the idea that Hank was abusing her. Given what Millar was doing with the couple in the Ultimates I'd imagine that the Marvel regime liked the abusive version of Hank better. Ugh!

****

I think JB handled that just about perfectly in FANTASTIC FOUR #254.  Both in the just before moment on the bottom of page 6, and the just after moment on top of page 10.

When he or she has outed does he or she change his, and this is just an example beacuse I have no imagination right now, name to Gayman or Homo Erectus or something like that. Does he change his dress to rainbow colors? SOmetimes gay people have fesivals here and they dress in bright colors, so my guess is will the hero also change into "gay" colors?

I did not know that. Not surprising considering Jemas's "bad girl comics for horny fanboys" comment that Matt quoted.

And what a crappy origin story it was. Equal blame for that abomination of an origin story should also go to Quesada and Paul Jenkins.
