The Speedball nib in question is a fixed-width calligraphic pen.  The crowquill (I'm assuming you mean the Hunt 100 series) is flexible-width.  I can't even imagine trying to draw with the Speedball, and hand-lettering with the Hunts would likely be a mess.

So the Green Lantern symbol is the new Pink Triangle/Rainbow?

I have a Superman shield tattooed on my left shoulder -- and for many, many years I've considered getting a Green Lantern on my right.

Probably won't now.  I don't want people to think THAT'S why I got it.

I'm convinced if you wait six months no one will remember, Tom.

I had heard that the Superman "S" shield is considered a "gay symbol" in England. Has anyone else heard of that?

I sure hope so Paul. The reason that I began reading comics as a 5
year old was because someone told me that Superman had come out.
I've loved comics ever since.

DC was first (Marvel followed shortly afterward) to de-unique its characters. As much as I don't like sales departments dictating creative, any competent PR/sales person would have advised them not to have multiple versions of the same character. It's confusing to the public. When someone has to say, "Which Flash" or "Which Green Lantern" or "Which Robin" or even "Which Batman," you've made a serious mistake.

Ah..... so these aren't drawing tips but used mostly for lettering. Thanks, Dave.

And to make it worse, I have often had to ask those questions when dealing with what is supposed to be the SAME character. One of the things that wearied me most, working at DC, was having Batman guest star in one of my books, and having to ask "Who is Batman this month?" Meaning not "who's wearing the suit", but "how is his personality being portrayed?"

I was describing JB's career to a co-worker last week.  Knowing that Northstar's marriage was in the news, I said...

Me:  "And he created the first gay superhero."

Co-worker:  "He created Green Lantern??"

And then I got caught in that "not that Green Lantern" trap so many have referenced upthread.

So, congratulations on creating Green Lantern, JB!

An important reminder -- and one IS needed from time to time -- that civilians know not and, largely, care not.

An important reminder -- and one IS needed from time to time -- that civilians know not and, largely, care not.

Can I get an "amen"?

I wonder how many of us, like me, tried to explain the Phoenix Saga to our friends after seeing XMEN3?  How many times have we felt the need to have them understand the way it works in the comics after seeing some lame flick?  (GREEN LANTERN for example.)  Unfortunately, JB is right -- they largely don't care.

No kidding, I was having lunch with a friend a couple weeks ago -- he's pretty high up in Gov't, has a clearance and everything, wears one of those funny lanyards -- because he honestly wanted to understand WHICH Green Lantern...

So there we were sitting in downtown DC at a sidewalk cafe having a serious discussion about Earth-1 and Earth-2, where he even asked the inevitable, "If Earth-2 has the older heroes, why isn't it Earth-1?"

When you have to start an explanation with "The DC Universe is really a Multi-verse..." you're already in trouble.
