Walt Kelly used a studio. As did most strip artists. It becomes rather cumbersome, when a question is posed -- "How did So-and-so do thus-and-such?" -- to attempt to break it down in terms of WHO did WHAT. Especially in an instance like this, where the question is "how", not "who".

Sure, it's just trivia, but you've been around comics fans long enough to know how important trivia is to us. Shikuma was an amazing letterer with a highly distinctive style, on a strip where the lettering was more important than was usual. I just wanted to give him some credit.

Back to the thread...sort of!
If I'm already gay, does it now make me gayer to want this bathrobe? Gay lantern?

What keeps coming to mind with this story is the way the meaning of my GL t-shirt hasn't changed to me since I first found it (2005), but what the people who see it think I'm 'saying' with it changes over time.
Ah, symbols!

...the meaning of my GL t-shirt hasn't changed to me since I first found it (2005), but what the people who see it think I'm 'saying' with it... I wore the same tee on a recent x-country flight. The attendant (who clearly "played for my team") pointed to it and said, "He just came out." "Well, not this one," I responded. "A different one." "No," he said. "Green Lantern." So thank you Dave, and all you other newly inadvertant gay supporters!

I'm actually a long-time 'vertant' supporter, as the proud brother of an out, politically active and married lesbian.
Wore the shirt to pick up bagels this morning, and the thought about its meaning occurred to me as I walked in the door and the group of people ahead of me in line wearing bright orange t's with 'Team Messina' plastered across the front gave me a look. For half a second, I wondered how successful DC's PR had been and if anyone made the new association.
Then I desperately wished for a 'Team Loggins' t-shirt, so I could stand next to them and pull an angry face.
I should note that at no point did I think about the Orange Lanterns. Feh.

""If it were true, I'd guess Tim Drake.( Robin )" Robin is a mainstream character. Tim Drake is NOT. To be a "mainstream" character is a lot like what I have said about being "famous". When people ask me if I am "famous", I say "Have YOU ever heard of me?" To be "famous", one must be known by those who are not intimately familiar with their field. To be a "mainstream" character, the character must be recognizable even to those who have only limited awareness of comics. Thus, say "Robin" to most civilians, and they know he's connected to Batman. Say "Tim Drake" and they'll say "Who?""
I agree, I guess a part of me figures if DC is gonna break the "rules" , my mind sees Robin ( Tim Drake) the better choice.
However, It occurs to me that the rules have been broken so much for so long that it wasn't a long trip to JUSTIFY which character would "fit" in the new ...presentation.
Thanks for the reminder!

pointed to it and said, "He just came out." ................................. This happened to me at work. A customer came in wearing a GL tee that had the sleeves cut off. One of the guys I work with commented that the guy probably didn't know what that symbol represented now. I told my co-worker "Not that GL." , to which he responded "WHAAA?" You can tell civilians 100 times and it makes no difference.

I sound such the eternal Frosh, here, but, do artists consider this a pen or a brush?
+++++
I never used those old Speedball tips but I had a couple of friends who had really nice sets and I always wondered if they were any different than the crowquill type tips.
