Andrew's correct about the Earth-2 Superman unlikeliness as a candidate. The Earth-2 book has already debuted and the characters were shown to be no older than their mainstream counterparts, so they are not the slightly less powerful, avuncular veterans of World War II they have been shown to be in the past. There is no longer any sense that these are "the originals" in some form or another. And, taking a cue from Andrew and avoiding spoilers, the plot does take the book in a different direction than we've seen before. A "Mr. and Mr. Superman" series does not look to be in the offing. The new Alan Scott smacked vaguely of Watchmen's Ozymandias, so there may be something there, but again, Earth-2 would be a bad place to try to draw headlines since explaining the idea seems to actively confuse those individuals who have no interest in reading the book i.e. the media, Marvel fans, et al. The new "Shazam" feature has debuted in the back pages of the Justice League book, but so far, all we've seen is Billy as a pain-in-the-ass lying foster kid. The hero himself has yet to appear. They could establish that Billy is gay himself and only just coming to realize it and that the Captain, excuse me, "Shazam" (the name is not just for wizards anymore!) therefore is as well. Again, lots of thematic issues due to the underage nature of Billy but that could be the hook they're going for, an attempt to speak to teens just coming into their own sexuality and talking openly about the realities of finding you're gay. Maybe. Sounds overly ambitious, though. Easier just to go with a virtual non-entity and slap a new coat of paint on them. How about the Blue Beetle? That seems more "mainstream." He wears a powder-blue outfit and simply goes maaaddd accessorizing it! Dan Garrett could be his Silver Fox sugar-daddy... and just think how "Bwahahahaha!!!" would sound done by Waylon Flowers and Madam...
