Another one I haven't read.  I used to think I knew JB's work really well, but between this and the Sunspot thread, I realize there's a lot more out there that I haven't read.

JB has been prolific throughout his career, so it is great when these come up so I can add them to my reading list.  My biggest omission is I haven't read "Armor Wars II".  I have to fix that this summer

I get practically anything JB draws, but have been a little more selective on what he writes but doesn't draw; have found the artists can sometimes be hit or miss.

This one with Garney, however, has gotten good reviews, so I might need to pick it up.

I too prefer the Marvel Visionaries volume. At the same time, IMO,
JB's writing and Ron Garney's art is an instant classic as well.

Adam: How many issues of the Hulk did JB end up writing that second
time around?

====

IIRC, JB wrote seven issues of the series plus the annual. The annual
was a Chapter One story drawn by Lee Weeks, who does an amazing
Hulk. After JB left the series, I believe Garney stayed on as artist for a
while and Paul Jenkins took over as writer.

In those days when I didn't read American editions but only Italian ones, I missed the run, except for #1 (Hulk was published with Daredevil, and I was not interested in DD's then current series).

I liked that. What's the Hulk comics are about? Conflict. A man vs a monster. A monster vs the world. JB (with the aid of good old Ron Rarney) managed to show very good. I loved the scene in issue #1 when Banner is alone on the bus thinking how sometimes he believed he could control the monster. And when he's helping the citizens to rebuild the town, another great scene.

But in those days, I started visiting forums, too.

And nerds... well, they weren't glad for those stories.

So I asked "What's wrong with these? I haven't read them."

"They're the worst of the worst."

"Yes, byt why?"

"I don't remember, but they're the worst of the worst".

A couple of years later, the run was reprinted in a pocket size trade and I appreciated it so much. Just recently I bought the American books so I could enjoy Garney's artwork in comic book format and I still love this storyline. The plane disaster was quite scary! Tyrannus as the mastermind, a good choice. The Avengers... appreciated!

Too bad this run was so short.

Yes JB run on HULK was ever so short, keep in mind what he planned for Bruce Banner. I think the new run with Silvestri on art is about when Banner and Hulk are seperated? Always liked Silvestris art, but I´m not so into Hulk stories. still waiting for Buscemas run on essentials.

thanks for all the info, I have order it too day.

And thanks JB for all awesome art  and stories including Hulk. My favorite scen is when Hercules smacks him real good. ( ...or try too:)

Not sure I get this, Neil!

What I meant is that in those days I started visiting Italian forums, where I learned how many nerds bashed JB (for his Spider-Man works and, of course, for Hulk). I was very amazed seeing how most of the authors I loved the more were despised by so named fans.

Please note I tend to use the "nerds" word in a negative way, referring to those who "don't get it" or read superheroes despite hating them!

I got what you meant.  You were direct to the point and didn't, as we say, "beat around the bush".  It was a compliment.
