I think Nautilus and (his?) mermaids are some of the best designs JB ever came up with.

In a sane commercial environment, he would be getting a spin-off series and a line of toys!

I agree. Interesting how he looks different than "(his?) mermaids"...

I really enjoyed this book!

One thing that struck me on my second reading was that
Three's transformation took "twenty excruciating minutes".
I wonder if the initial change takes as long - I'm looking
forward to finding out.

Just read it. LOVED IT. Lotsa action, enough "mysteries" to keep you thinking.

The choice of paper stock made this inifitely more pleasurable a read than any book I've opened in the last decade.

The only thing that could have made this better is if it were a 64-page biweekly.   (I guy can dream, can't he?)

TRIO #1 is proof positive that JB is, without a doubt, "the most important comic book writer working today."  This is because his LOVE and RESPECT of the medium is evident in every page - THAT'S what's important.  It'd be nice if it were contagious.

Choke on that, Grant Morrison.

I've been doing nothing but "filling the gaps" in my collection via TPBs for almost ten years now.  NEXT MEN, TRIO and COLD WAR are the only new titles I've made a point of seeking out and picking up.

Thank you again, JB.

I (probably wrongly) assumed that Nautilus was the offspring of a "union" of
human and mermaid.

I gave that second copy I bought to a student today. I'll report back with his
thoughts on the book tomorrow.

This is the kind of book that takes me back to my childhood. Glad you are using the caption boxes. I miss those so much in modern comics and next to Stan Lee no one uses them better than you.

The art was top notch, especially the fisherman scene. While they were throw away characters you gave them real looks and personalities in just a few panels. Very tough to pull off.

I can already tell that Three will be my favorite and am looking forward to learning more about him. Looking forward to One and Two as well, but Three is that character that grabs you first. I actually like the rock texture/coloring of his character. It is different and fresher than the standard "Thing" look that is given to most rock characters.

A big thumbs up for issue one. Looking forward to seeing more.

The most I've anticipated a comic since the return of NEXT MEN!!!  I had an especially tough day at work with lots going on.  I made sure to make the special effort to drive 45 minutes out of my way to pick up the new JB book.  I knew it would brighten my day!  My review is about to come at you in waves...I'll start with the cover and first three pages:

Cover- I went with the regular all-JB cover. Nothing wrong with the Sinnott-inked cover but I thought the all-JB version was exceptional!  I love the "torn cover showing the inside pages" trick!  Oh yeah, I'm a big fan of the feel of the paperstock used on the cover and interiors.  Cudos to IDW.

Page 1- "Another time, another place..."  Classic!  Great set up with the setting and a cool looking robot.  SKRUNCH!

Page 2-3 spread-  Aw yeah two-page spread!  I'm always a sucker for the tough guy, bruiser of a hero group.  I think I like this guy already!  I haven't read through this thread yet, so maybe it's answered already, but I'm wondering how the color/texturing of this character was done.  I can't recall seeing anything quite like it in comics.  Cool.

I drove to a neighboring city during a thunderstorm to get my copy!

Hey, shouldn't Rock be One? :-P

Pages 4 through back cover- Wow.  My favorite comic I've read in a long time.

Masterful job with Paper's two-dimensionality.

Scissor's shiny black costume is sharp!  (get it?)

"The earth's most majestic creatures..."  I agree!

That final splash page opposite the next issue's cover......SWOON!!!!  Fabulous!  I cannot overstate how much I loved this issue!  I'm an unapologetic Byrne fan but I don't go nuts like this over every new comic JB puts out.  This one is SPECIAL!!!!!!!
