There is a little spoiler in my post, so readers BEWARE!

Like others who have posted in this thread before me, I bought, read and
enjoyed TRIO #1 today! In order to avoid sounding too repetitive, I'll just say
that I agree with all of the positive comments that have been shared in
the posts before mine! The only thing that I didn't really care for is the
texture effect being used for Number Three's rough exterior. That minor
quibble is easily overlooked though, especially since Rock's alter ego looks
like a young me!

I'm so glad that I bought two copies - one to keep and one to give away
tomorrow!

I think I have mentioned here before how a couple of months ago I took two
boxes of comics to work to give away to students, but after looking through
both of them, found that only the five Jack Kirby Fourth World trade
paperbacks were appropriate for kids! Now that's a shame! Luckily, I
don't have that problem with TRIO #1!

Same here. Other than that, stellar work!

Ahmed is instantly my favorite character! Nice bit of dialogue with his
wife (?) on the phone.

Interesting to see such a diverse team, too! I think this is the first comics team with no caucasian member.

Wouldn't Scissor/Ahmed/Two technically be a caucasian?

I enjoyed it. JB hit the ground running then tossed a number of balls in the air. In only a single issue we have several plots started and a slew of characters introduced without feeling rushed or cramped, plus it didn't it didn't feel padded.  This is how you write comics!!!

Read the first issue. 10 thoughts...

1. Great art and inking. Lots of nice detail work (The men of Malagen being attacked for example) -- well done.

2. The book has a fun, light feel to it. The pace is swift -- left me wanting to learn more about the characters -- I mean that in a good way.

3. I have to admit, I found Rock's texture slightly distracting. Not a HUGE deal... but it (sort of) called too much attention to itself imho.

4. Nautilus is a neat character... makes me want to see a Nautilus vs Namor commission :)

5. I like the creature on the last page. Very cool.

6. I likes the grey tones you added on the whales -- reminded me of your NAMOR work.

7. Have we heard about sales? Is this a series or a mini? I think sales were going to decide that, correct?

8. I really like the paper. Nice choice!

9. I enjoyed Hembeck's cartoon!

10. This book is perfect for an old fashioned pin-up page! Maybe one that shows how the powers work -- it was always fun when Kirby did those.

Nice to have a new, fun, all-ages comic on the stands.

I look forward to issue 2 :)

Bravo

BTW I don't have a favorite character yet... I need a little more information about them all first. I do find them all appealing.

On a similar vain, I was thinking of a Mole Man vs. Nautilus commission each with their respective big creature and minions.

Loved it.  Loved the fact that we had narration.  I loved that the mass murder on the boat didn't need to resort to a bloodbath for us to get the point.

And it looks great. The art was like a welcome mix of everything JB has ever done.  And I can't wait to learn more about the characters.  Looking forward to issue 2.  The cover is fantastic.

What an amazing introduction!  I forgot I was reading the first issue as the action and intrigue move along at at nice clip.  By the end, I know their powers, but I like that we don't know everything about them

I instantly liked Rock and it's great that this first story begins and ends on him.  I'm very interested to find out who they are, and how they became a team.  I like the mystery of not knowing yet.  You jumped right into the action, like the best of your storytelling.

I loved the caption boxes!  I know that a lot of your recent work has rendered these obsolete, but I love how they are used in the "classic" sense here.  They are integrated perfectly into the story here.  The narration isn't redundant, it complements the story and gives it the appropriate comic book gravitas.  Well done, JB!!

Thank you for a refreshing jolt of summer comic book goodness!

Terrific issue, JB.  I like the narration also.

The art is amazing as usual.  The scene with the whales and dolphins is my favorite.  Rock's texture will take some getting used to.  A good thing about it is that it reminds me of granite and conveys him being solid.

Question:  When Colin is in the taxi, he says "Mister, when I need a geography lesson...I'll give you one."  Is that an error or something cryptic?
