Super-skrull; one of those characters I appreciate more and more as I
got older.

(Has his costume ever changed or has he managed to keep his
original look after all these years?)

At least one, in a MARVEL TEAM-UP written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by some new kid whose name escapes me.

Thanks Mr Byrne - and thanks to Matt Hawes for posting the cover of that issue of MARVEL TEAM-UP. I'll be sure to look out for it.

I love everything about this. The webbing, the way the angle of the piece is positioned and the shadow on Spidey's mask. Good stuff. 2012 has been a great year for commissions.

there is so much to love in this piece.  I particularly like follwing the Super Skrull's lower torso as it stretches up/down, and the webbing under Spidey's arms - part of the classic Spidey I love.  the buildings and the FF logo - just great!

Yes, as JB says, Skrully acquired Sue's force-field powers along the way in any case.

He had them as early as Thor #142(?) around '67, The Scourge Of The Super-Skrull!

Oh! Seeing that picture "right-side up" makes me dizzy! It beautifully captures the more acrobatic side of a guy swinging through the city and flipping around in three dimensions.

My favourite detail of the whole picture though are those webs Spider-Man is shooting at the "Thing fist" of the Super-Skrull. I love the classic look of them, and the fact that they appear opaque so we don't see the rocky details or the building through them. It just looks like Spider-Man is shooting a thicker, stronger webbing to combat the strength of the Skrull.

As a fan, I used to really dig it when Spider-Man would adjust his webbing to deal with different situations. And, of course, I will remember for as long as my brain still works, that "data page" that informed us that, should the webbing be expanded to one inch in thickness, it would "hold even the mighty muscled Thing a prisoner for life!"

You basically took the words out of my mouth (off my keyboard?), JB.

I was around 10-11 when Marvel first started releasing "Masterworks", and my grandma bought for me the first two Spider-Man volumes. Those descriptions of Spider-Man's webs have been a part of my Spider-Man lexicon ever since. Burned into my brain is the sludge-like appearance of his webbing coming out like a grey paste, and the idea that in a more concentrated form it was even stronger than the already mighty threads he swung around on.

Part of me has also wondered if that would make the webbing last longer, since if it was a little thicker it wouldn't completely evaporate in the standard one-hour timeframe. Maybe if Spider-Man glopped it on heavy enough, he could pin a weaker villain for several hours instead of a single one?
