I was never a huge fan, but he did some pretty solid Incredible Hulk covers during Sal Buscema's pencil (and ink) run.

As an inker, I wasn't impressed, generally. But, count me among those who really liked his work on THE INCREDIBLE HULK VS. SUPERMAN.

I feel the same way about Milgrom as what Thom Price said a few posts back. I wouldn't pick up an issue because he worked on it, but I wouldn't avoid it either if it looked like a good story.

Hated his Hulk run. It didn't sit well after the premature end to JB's foundation-building that had so perfectly set-up my expectations.

And there was Secret Wars II... The original series had Zeck/Beatty -- a classic pairing. Could there be a worse combination than Milgrom/Leialoha? The postures of characters were so stiff sometimes. Perhaps the art team were just trying to reflect the quality of the writing...

And then -- paradoxically--  my favourite ever picture of the Hulk is by Al Milgrom. So go figure.

I was never keen on his sequential work,i think his strength was in covers, maybe to do with the time involved and his speed?

Al Milgrom was one of the nicest, and most patient, professionals I ever met back when I still went to comic conventions. Even though I was 15 year old kid, he still looked over my scribblings and gave an honest review. And, unlike some other pros, I didn't come away feeling like dirt for showing them to him. He just seemed like an all around classy guy.

So, I feel kind of bad saying that I've always found his artwork a bit on the dull side. He wasn't one of those guys who were so bad that I'd stop reading the book because of them, but wasn't someone who's work I'd go out of the way to find. I guess I always saw his work as serviceable, (although that sounds horribly dismissive). The one exception was his West Coast Avengers stuff, which I disliked so much, I did drop the book. Of course, I wasn't digging the stories at the time either.

That "Al Milgrom" Hulk drawing is heavily over-inked by Joe Rubinstein. There's not much Milgrom left in it.
I enjoyed Milgrom's Spider-Man run, and liked his inks depending on whom he was inking.

Milgrom's art inked by other individuals was bad to look at -- Del Barras (on the Hulk) and Joe Sinnott (on the Avengers/WCA) were nice to look at.  When inking his own work, it was kind of a toss-up as to how it would look.  There are some books that look like time and effort were put into it, and others that had the "justinkitandgetitoutthedoorASAP!" look to it.
He's done some nice covers and some rushed interiors.

And when looking at the man's workload, I can kind of understand it.

I understand why Milgrom may have been slagged back in the '80s (let's be honest, SECRET WARS II did him no favors), but I also feel, in hindsight, that he was vastly underrated, particularly as a cover artist, where I feel he was able to shine the most.  Three of my favorites, off the top of my head:

Spectacular Spider-Man #38

Incredible Hulk #237

Incredible Hulk #267

Al Milgrom may never be accused of making anyone's Top 5 list, but the guy has talent, no doubt about it.

"my favourite ever picture of the Hulk is by Al Milgrom."

Mine too... And he didn't make my top five Hulk list
either. I did enjoy his Avengers & West Coast Avengers
work though, especially when inked my Joe Sinnott!

Yeah, definetly wasn't among my faves in the past, but it's one of those artists you get used to.

Since here in Brazil you'd always get 3 different comics on each issue (our small digest format), there was a big chance you'd get at leats one great artist to be drooling over.

Al is the one that inked JB on that nice late 90s series he did with Roger Stern ain't it?
How was called that sweet thing already?
Was it Marvel Generation or something like that?
I remember i liked it a lot. Both story and art.
