I love your design for the Beetle armor JB, but I have to admit my favorite version is the original.  He just looks so unusual.

*******

Yeah, he looks like a design right out of a 1950s sci-fi flick!

Paul is late to his own party.  Where is that boy?  Will someone put a bell on him already...

That is one excellent collection!

Ditko and Lee were really on their game when they came up with those early Spider-Man villains.  While Lee and Romita managed some memorable ones (Rhino, Kingpin, Shocker, Silvermane, Prowler), it was nothing like the steady stream of them every month early on.

Yeah, no kidding.  I said this in another thread, but almost all of the costume designs are great, too.  You don't hit a less-than-excellent look until the Looter in #36, and he's not bad, just a little dull compared to the others.  And, of course, the name "Looter" doesn't conjure up workable imagery as strongly as the animal-influenced names of so many of the others, so Ditko had a bit less to work with.

Classic Scorpion and Beetle.  Whatever they are now, you can't just erase the characters as they were introduced to us all those years ago, no matter what the JQ era boys might wish...
