William: I didn't know that. Did they even give you a heads-up they were going to do that?

---

I'm wondering what the composition was originally... right now it's pretty odd.

Nope. Saw it as a finished cover hanging on the editor's wall.

I didn't even know that was one of John's covers. (Deadman)

I've owned it for years but had no idea it was JB either.  It doesn't have the usual JB vibe for me (probably because of all the editorial changes!)  I don't understand how the guy could shoot from that position, either... I'm no scientist and I get that perhaps he's falling or being pushed back by the recoil as the editor has positioned things (though no speed lines), but wouldn't that affect the trajectory, which seems pretty straight and barely altered by his apparent backwards lurch motion?

A particular frustration lies in the fact that Deadman is one of my top favorite characters, and this cover was my first opportunity to draw him "for real".

(Another Deadman related frustration, one I have mentioned before -- I have a beautiful pencil drawing of Deadman, done for me by Neal Adams back in my fan days. Years ago I tucked it into a book to keep it safe -- and have not seen it since! Too many books!! ARGH!!)

The dreaded 'putting it somewhere safe' phenomenon where you realise you have dreamt up somewhere novel and unguessable.... and long forgotten.

...and a 4th one... kind of a "trick question"! Yes, it's really a cover drawn by JB...
