The biggest gripe most people had was that the Anaheim Convention Center was also holding a huge girl's volleyball tournament and a cheerleading contest at the same time

I don't see the problem...?

Well, yeah... But there were also the parents and sports moms that made up the bulk of the crowding.  At least there wasn't a religious convention going on at the same time, as it used to be the case when Anime Expo was in Anaheim.

I remember there was a transgender woman who I saw at the San Diego Comic-Con who would do very accurate Phoenix and Cat Woman (the Burton movie version) costumes back in the early 90's.

••

A Certain Writer (who shall remain nameless) had to be rescued from hitting on a particularly well done Storm who was actually a guy.

Well, there's the depression that goes along with clearly remembering a
time when that would have been the most awesome thing in the world
but instead realizing that you are old enough to be all these girls' dad (if
you started knocking people up in high school).

The cheerleaders and volleyball players stopping the cosplayers to take
pictures was hilarious though. I think I walked past team photos with a
Stormtrooper and Batman.

I saw an incident in Philadelphia in the early 90s involving a person (not a writer) involved in the comics business and a Rogue who was actually a guy. Upon realizing his mistake, he got quite loud and extremely rude. Those witnessing it thought there was about to be a fight, but it didn't go that far.
