There has been on significant change at Cons since my earliest days of attending. The people in costume actually look like they should be wearing them.

I expect I shall never drive from my memory one of the earliest Cons I went to, where a group of fans had come as the Legion of Superheroes, in Cockrum era costumes. A much-too-heavy young lady was dressed as Phantom Girl, and the effect was. . . disturbing. And not in a good way!

Mike Grell once told me a story about a similar Phantom Girl experience.  I wonder if it was the same one :)

the crowds don't look that bad. I miss the publisher booths when I go to heroescon.

I haven't been to a comic convention in years, so I was hoping to go down.  But ultimately I couldn't carve out the time.

Looks like it was a good one - great pics, Bill!!

LOL!! It's kind of like a train wreck. You can't look away from the horror before your eyes, and the image of it is burned into your memory forever.

My worst experience at a con was seeing Seven Of Nine from Star Trek Voyager, the rear view in the skin tight silver outfit was ok,but when `she` turned round it was a not particularly good looking man, with a very prominent bulge! We christened him Six Of One(And Half A Dozen Of The Other)

I remember there was a transgender woman who I saw at the San Diego Comic-Con who would do very accurate Phoenix and Cat Woman (the Burton movie version) costumes back in the early 90's.

Moscone didn't drive the con out -- Wondercon pulled it out.  They used the excuse that the one wing (of a three wing building) was going to be under repair during the period WC usually is held there to move to Anaheim.

I was talking with Chuck Rosnaski (Mile High Comics) last year -- and this whole thing has been planned for years.

This is a total smack in the face to the fans who supported WonderCon for 25 years in SanFrancisco.

The con has no intention of returning to The Bay.  Comic Con wanted to hold a con to compete with Disney's con held in Anaheim -- now they have it.

Patrick, there were a lot of rumors flying around the con about the move to Anaheim being permanent.

The biggest gripe most people had was that the Anaheim Convention Center was also holding a huge girl's volleyball tournament and a cheerleading contest at the same time, which lead to some crowded conditions transiting between the Exhibit Hall and the Con Hotel (not to mention the Anaheim Hilton Food Court being packed every lunch and dinner hour).

Also, unlike Moscone Center in San Francisco, the food options in the area were all very high priced due to the proximity of Disneyland (and I draw the line at McDonalds and Denny's, which were a bit of a hike to get to from the Con, especially with the couple days of bad weather we had).

The con itself was great, but if it is going to be held in Anaheim from now on, I'll have to take a trip to one of the outlying supermarkets the day before to pick up some groceries and bring them back to the hotel room.

Will post a few more photos later.

I didn't know any of that, Patrick.  If so, that really sucks. The cons that remain up here are seriously lacking in comparison.
