I don't want to be a Spaceknight. They couldn't take the damn armor off... and Rom bitched about it ALL THE TIME.

Here's an interview with Rom toy creator, Lawrence McCoy:

HS: Has anyone approached you about any re-issuing of ROM either in toy or comic? Is the toy itself completely out of your hands? Do you have any connection to the toy-line/license/property or is it entirely Parker Brothers and Marvel?

LBM: I am in the process of re-acquiring the rights. Parker Brothers signed an agreement with Paramount not to use the name anymore, because Paramount threatened to sue claiming infringement on Star Trek's Romulan. I am getting that contract nulled by Paramount. Once that is done I can move forward.

When I read the books I kept thinking this is the kind of stuff the Silver Surfer should be doing.

I loved the books, and got most of the early books I had missed on E-Bay.

Rom was one of the first series I went out and searched for and found all the back issues.  I love the first 50 issues or so.  I didn't care for it as much after The Space Knights won the war and Rom left Earth.

I liked ROM too, more in my "second tier" of comics but I probably appreciate it more now than then. My lasting memory of it (other than Sal Buscema's work) is the shocking event that happened to Torpedo in that book. Not sure how old I was then but I remember thinking ROM needs to kick some Dire Wraith tail for that!

++++

So, that´s a typical case of a character going through changes in a closed story, instead of the "illusion of change" JB defends.

Issue # 18, which is the second part of a two-parter involving the X-Men, is one of my favorite comics, period. And my favorite non-Hulk comic with Sal Buscema art.

I've never read an issue of ROM. The series was ending just around the time I got into comics. However, I recently found that I do own 2 issues of ROM which I've never read (they were probably part of a box of comics I bought very cheap years ago when a local shop went out of business). With this thread here now, I have an excuse to pull them out and read them.

I liked a lot of the ROM stuff, too. It's too bad there won't be any
ESSENTIALS volumes collecting the series.
