The Ditko issues didn't always stink. It's just that they were inconsistent. Many times due to the inker.
I've seen plenty of examples of Ditko handing in roughs instead of full pencils. I wouldn't be surprised if this happened on Rom.

So there were issues where the inker added to Ditko's pencils to create quality storytelling, and other times where it was very stiff, and lacking of any energy and detail.
The problem was that we we used to Sal... who never suffered from creating storytelling that was stiff and lacking energy.

and there seems to be more PCR in that splash above than Ditko.

Do you know, Dave?

VERY COOL Ditko!!!

This thread has really got my Rom juices flowing.  I stopped by the LCS today and picked up Rom#17,70-75 and Annuals 2,3.  I need to pull out my issues and complete the full run.  In a way I'm glad Marvel doesn't have the rights to him.  If they did, by now I'm sure he would have spikes sticking out of his shoulders and elbows.

That's true, Neil!!

ROM was the only character I grew up with that hasn't been "destroyed" at one point or another...

I think Shooter claimed (in the link I posted earlier) that Ditko needed work, and Rom was the only "pure" hero that Ditko would actually draw. Sal was willing to do other books, so Ditko got Rom.

ahhhhh Ditko. He turned into a picky professional.
