Last time I saw Doom in a comic, he was bowing to some extra-dimensional "Masters"...what was that all about???

Doom going through the metal detector at the airport reminds me of this:

Anyone know why SUPER-VILLAIN TEAM-UP mostly had Doctor Doom/Namor team-ups for it's run? I think Doom teamed up with/battled Magneto and The Red Skull, too, but at least nine or ten issues were devoted to Namor and Doom, which, if I'm honest, did get old after a while.

I think the title of the comic got me a little too excited. At times, I was hoping to see some other team-ups such as Doom/Kingpin, Doom/Mandarin, Doom/The Leader, Doom/Green Goblin and Doom/Doctor Octopus. I even hoped we'd see some Doom-free issues, perhaps featuring The Mandarin/The Leader, Kingpin/Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin/Red Skull.

If the title of the book had been "Doctor Doom Team-Up", I may have been more forgiving, but the title led me to believe we'd see a mixture of villains. Not saying Doom's constant presence was a bad thing, but surely a good writer could have come up with a Doom/Leader or Doom/Kingpin encounter. I hate to complain, but aspects of the title underwhelmed me.

Edit - Spelling mistakes.

I don't think any villain should have their own SERIES. The idea makes no sense to me. Who am I rooting for???

I hear Jeremy Irons' voice when I read Doom dialogue
--------------------------------------
Very good call!!

I have to align my vote with this as an example of getting Doom badly wrong:

As far as other match-ups go, I don't have that much interest. I know Doom has cropped up against most everyone in the Marvel Universe, but he works best against the FF. His hatred of Reed is such a massive part of his psychological make-up that cutting that out of a story means you lose a huge chunk of what makes him interesting.

I suppose there might be mileage in a story with a magical character like Zatanna where it could be played off against the angle of his Mother's soul.

As bad as "cow-mouth" is (and it's horrendously wrong for Doom), I think that "Be quiet. Your voice is annoying." is even hideously worse. Stunningly awful....

Almost forgot about that Bendis-written scene above. Just awful.

One of the reasons why I, a fan of Bendis' creator-owned stuff, dislike
his mainstream Marvel work is that he doesn't really get most of the
characters' "voices". That scene with Doom is a prime example.

When you're writing Doom, it's your chance to write Shakespeare -- Richard III, Claudius, Macbeth -- not Mr. Orange from Reservoir Dogs.

I am utterly shocked and my heart is broken over
that bit of dialogue a few posts above.  I mean,
really.

It's not often where I involuntarily say anything,
but a despairing and incredulous 'oh my god' fell
out of my mouth reading that bit.

I had no idea how correct JB is when he states
Marvel doesn't exist anymore.  I really don't know
what kind of person I'd be today if I grew up reading
dialogue like this in my comics.
