Nice work.
And a character we don't see enough.

John draws folds so well, that for a long time I thought he brought in models for this sort of thing. Now that I have graduated art school I know it is mostly LOTS OF PRACTICE, and probably some life study. Great job John.

••

In a way, this is kind of true.

I struggled with drapery for many years -- and, truth to tell, I still have a long way to go -- but I took a quantum leap forward when I made THIS model. I used Poser for the figures, but I was not happy with how they rendered clothing, so I decided to model Octopus' lab coat myself, the hard way. This necessitated my thinking, really for the first time, about how folds in cloth work THREE DIMENSIONALLY. Modeling the sleeves was a particular, ah, poser.

Anyway, I learned a lot from that model, and I have continued to explore and pursue what I learned.

I have no interest in the character and only know them from mentions or cameos in other books... but if this was a cover to a book, I'd buy it.   Just a beautiful piece.

That'll be cool!

BTW, for those that don't know it, the first live-action Superman on film, Kirk Ayln, also played Blackhawk in a 1952 serial:

BLACKHAWK movie serial trailer.

Okay, first of all -- let me say that I'm no young man anymore and Fmajor is a little bit high for me.  Personally, I would've lowered this a good third!

Either way, here's me barking out THE BLACKHAWK SONG
