Related to the Fave FF Artist thread. Doesn't have to be the FF book proper, but your favorite covers featuring the FF period. Mine: ![](uploads/ChadCarter/2012-01-28_224616_ff_top.jpg)
Reasoning: - Nothing thrilled me more than any time "the Thing fights alone!" Vs a dinosaur by Rich Buckler/Sinnott with a touch o' John Romita, Johnny in temper-flames, Reed stoic and realistic. A winner.
- Vs the Hulk by John Buscema/Sinnott. The best "Nuff Said" cover of all time.
- How many times have you been gifted first person POV as the Thing? Kirby/Sinnott sweetness.
- Not topped, the best FF battle cover vs Cosmic Doom. The greatest FF saga of all, as well, beating out Galactus I because, well, the story didn't end on a deus ex machina. Seeds planted in Galactus I integral to climax, which is brilliance.

ONLY FOUR! Ok, here it goes... #49 If This Be Doomsday! Jack Kirby, Galactus, The Fantastic Four, and the Silver Surfer. Nuff Said! #159 Rick Buckler and Joe Sinnott drawing The Thing and The Inhumans. Awesome cover. #249 The Gladiator victorious. Great Job JB. #260 The Doctor Doom mask smoking in the rubble was the coolest thing I'd seen on a cover up to that point. It's also my all-time favorite FF issue.

211- Terrax is a favorite villain of mine and here he arrives on the scene with a bang!
![](uploads/JoeHollon/2012-01-29_054222_ff211.jpg)
243- One of my all-time favorite covers. Who could resist buying this?!?!
![](uploads/JoeHollon/2012-01-29_054317_FF243small.jpg)
249- Again, one of my all-time favorite covers regardless of title or artist.
![](uploads/JoeHollon/2012-01-29_054358_FF249small.jpg)
307- The first issue of FF I purchased off a spinner rack which is proof that the cover did its job! Diablo looks so cool.

Something I've pointed out here before that I've noticed over the years....most of my all-time favorite covers have one thing in common that is missing from a lot of modern covers: The Hero In Peril!!!!

For me, they'd all be from the first twelve issues, a reflection in part, I suppose, of my age when I encountered them.
Issue #4: first issue of FF I ever saw, and first silver age/FF appearance of the Sub-Mariner.
Issue #5: first Doctor Doom, first Sinnott inked cover.
Issue #8: first Puppet Master/Alicia, with giant PM pulling the FF's strings.
Issue #12: FF meet the Hulk in a cover that emphasizes suspense rather than battle action: "Another second and I'll destroy them all!" The Jack Kirby Collector did a feature on Kirby's fifty top covers throughout his career for its fiftieth issue, and as I recall, this scored at or near the top.
If I have to pick just one, I think I go with #4, beautiful in its drama and simplicity. After Kirby's, I like a number of JB's covers, but the limit for this thread is four, so I'll stop here.

![](uploads/SteveOgden/2012-01-29_093404_ff_28-1.jpg) ![](uploads/SteveOgden/2012-01-29_093440_ff_100-1.jpg) ![](uploads/SteveOgden/2012-01-29_093509_ff_248-1.jpg) ![](uploads/SteveOgden/2012-01-29_093610_fantasticfour.gif) It is very difficult to do. But above are my four favorites. My first Fantastic Four I ever read was a beat up copy of #28. It was a fun thrill ride with some cool villains. And a great cover with the X-Men. Who I knew nothing of at that point. Then we have Fantastic Four #100 which I think is a staple for any comic reader and a must for a comic collection. Just a superb cover. I enjoyed JB's run on Fantastic Four and this issue had everything for me in it. I am a sucker of the concept of the giant being examining humans. And, the FF were taken to the being's laboratory. Like some great Silver Age stories, this story really captivated me. The part where Ben is falling to the floor and "It would take him most of the day to hit." Wow. And, the Marvel Treasury Edition has an image of the Fantastic Four that is for some reason burnt into my mind as "The" Fantastic Four. When someone mentions the Fantastic Four this is what I see. Although, the cover is by John Romita it looks like Joe Sinnott to me.
